swapped axles now no brakes?!

Just reading through,

Would the same folks doing the rear brakes be doing the front brakes at the same time and perhaps... have the calipers upside down. Bleeders up folks.

Just a thought

Good luck

I suppose it is possible considering i put all new components on when i did the swap. even if i do have my calipers on the wrong sides.. would this be a problem? or cause my problem?

You bet,

Brake line always below bleeder.

Good luck

well i will take a close look at them tomorrow if i have the time.. and see whats goin on.
thanks

I hooked up an air powered bleeder and sucked through atleast a bottle from each corner. So one would think all the air is out.

these things never work for me. it doesn't bleed the air out of the master cyl.

We have one at work, use it all time. It hooks up to the master cylinder and pressurizes the brake system with fresh fluid. You then go around and bleed it as normal, but you don't need anyone to pump the pedal. I find it a huge time saver and works great.

yeah those work, i think he is talking about the ones that apply a vacuum to the bleeder and suck fluid out. they suck.

have you ever used a reverse injection bleeder? those are amazing!

I agree about that if it is the little hand held ones.

We tryed out one of the reverse injection ones at work before we got the one we have now. It was by Wynns, it was a pretty slick machine.

i know what your problem is. you have the passenger caliper on the driver side and the drivers side on the passenger side. i did the same thing when i swapped axles and couldnt figure out why i didnt have brakes.

make sure the bleeder is higher than the hose going in.

well i stuck my head under the truck just now.. and the bleeders are below the line.. so i guess this is my problem..lol.. gonna switch them around this week and see what happens.

it seems like such a simple.. dumb mistake.. ohh well..lol.. Could you explain why/how this causes this kinda problem.
thanks
Liam

the air gets trapped inside the caliper and can't be bled out when the caliper is installed upside-down.

like if you have a water bottle turned upside-down the air is trapped at the bottom until you turn it rightside-up and can then fill if completely with water to remove all air.

makes sense.. however wouldnt the brakes still have some grab to them from the rear drums? as it is now.. mine are almost non eixistant. they eventually stop the truck.. but there is no pressure at all in the pedal... lol maybe i need to tighten up the drums too..

Very interesting! Sorry to say this, but I glad you had that goof cause that will definitely save me a headache latter! Anytime I take off my brake lines, I put a rubber tit, or cap on the ends to try to keep air out of the lines. Good luck.
