I have a '95 XLT with a 2.3 motor. It came with an automatic but I put in a 5 speed.
There is an '09 2.3 with auto, just motor and trans, for sale nearby. Can I swap this w/o major hassles? I still have the original brain box and I didn't cut any wires.

Pretty sure there were some differences that make it not an easy swap. It’s a 2.3l but a different 2.3l. I’m not fully versed on the differences though other than I know it’s been discussed before that the 95 and 09 2.3 motors are not the same.

'95 is a Lima, 09 is a Mazda based Duratec. No relation.

It will be a major hassle.

Yeah the transmission from the '09 will not bolt up to your 2.3. 2.3 Lima and 2.3 Duratech have different bellhousing bolt patterns.

And wiring will be totally different as well.

Might as well swap in something fun at that point.
