I am in the process of purchasing a 1991 ranger extended cab. im looking into lowering it. when i went to look at the truck I forgot to look under the rear end and i wont be able to till i go pick it up in a few weeks. my question is a 2 part...
1. is the rear axle above or below the leaf springs
2. if i lower the front end without dream beams how bad will it affect the camber
im only looking at lowering it 2-3 inches nothing major
Well.....since I happen to be an expert (on doing it the w-w-wrong way)....
First....2 or 3 inches IS major on a vehicle with twin I-beams (there's not a lot of travel left like there would be on a truck with A-Arms).
Second......lower the front end, THEN lower the rear until you get the look that you want.....THEN go to the alignment shop!!!
2" lowering won't hardly be noticeable---you might as well go 3" lower, since it's going to require a trip to the alignment shop anyway.
Don't bother cutting a loop off each coil spring to lower it---cutting coil springs to make the truck sit lower in the front makes it ride like a go-cart, even though it will look good. (I cut/shortened my coil springs 2 years ago to save some money, and have been dodging bumps in the road since then).
The alignment shop will have to put 2 new camber bushings in to correct the wheel "lean" .
I think the rear axle is under the springs...
