well i have a stock b4000 4.0 sohc and i was interested in the flashpaq or the cortex by superchips. i was wondering if anyone has used them and if you could let me know if its worth the 400 bucks? thanks!:icon_thumby:

if a ford one will work on your mazda, i have one for sale right now for less than 400.

it was nice to be able to re-calibrate my speedometer to account for my bigger tires and re-gear, as well as firm the shift points up and all that jazz. it was great for my auto cuz it felt like the trans was slipping less for each gear shift, but mpg went down some. i only used the tow and performance tools, never tried the economy tune. but now i think my motor is about to die, so that's why it's for sale.

Go to their website and see if the Mazda and Ford trucks use the same part number for the chips. If you can buy it cheaper used then do it, get the one from doyouquaxu and try that out. Ebay has them. I see them every once in awhile.

I have one. i run the HP tune and get better MPG with it. is it worth it for a stock truck? no. dont waste your money.

when your running 33's 4.56's, a intake, e fan and premium fuel, it becomes worth it.

i let my trans be, its great to diag, and its even better to adjust your speedo. theres a noticable amount of power you get, (not 40hp FYI) but it does give a nice little punch. between the intake, E-fan and tuner, it feels like i picked up another 20HP

to use it on your truck, you have to buy a $100 unlock from superchips. these are vin locked.

account that $100 in when your shopping for one. these lose total value instantly, so be sure you want one.

dont run fuel economy either. it just runs the truck super lean and is easy to burn out something. my truck wont even start if its on the economy tune, just coughs and sputters.

Don't waste your money on a generic superchips tune. I use an SCT X3 from Rogue Performance. He'll write you three tunes (your choice). You can go a step further with him and datalog your parameters. E-mail the file to Fred and he will modify the program to fine tune your program. I chose 87oct all around tune, 93 octane torque/towing tune, and 93 octane "hotrod" tune. Plus, he has the ability to modify your program when you add other parts (unlike the superchips). For instance, I'm gearing up for a supercharger. I can use the X3 and either dyno-tune at a SCT dealer/dyno or datalog with Fred.

false. if the seller sets their truck back 100% stock you can use the tuner on another vehicle without needing the $100 fee to unlock it.

thanks for all the good info! yeah i wanna do exhaust, intake, etc. before i worry about getting the tuner

I was thinking about getting one with my tax return money...I have an intake, exhaust, and underdrive pulley and think it would round out the performance of my truck nicely.
