Super Swamper LTB

It can take up to 8 0z per tire to get these bastards balanced, but IMHO, it's worthless. They're gonna vibrate till they warm up anyway, if you want a DD tire, buy a DD tire, not a bias ply mudder. :icon_idea:

:stop: First of all, as mentioned, I already know about bias ply tires, I have been running them for 15 yrs, I know bias ply's vibrate till they warm up, & are never perfectly smooth riding.

If I wanted a DD tire, I would have bought a DD tire, & do not need someone to tell me this. I do not have a trailer queen & therefore use it to get to my wheeling destination. I expect rough riding mud tires, I am not ignorant, but these tires are ridiculous. If you paid attention to my original post, I would not have had to repeat this. :annoyed:

When I left 4wd H/W, I expected the flat spots, but assumed they would gradually warm up & get a "little" better....they never did.

When I say they didn't have the right weights, yes...I mean they did not have enough. If this "equal " is supposed to work decent, I am starting to question if they put anything in them at all. Just to clarify.....I know they cannot be balanced perfectly, I know they will have flat spots, & I was not looking for DD tires. I just wondered if anyone was having a similar problem with this particular tire

Slow down there turbo. I did read your original post, maybe you should reread mine. It can take up to 8oz of weight to balance these tires, and even then it's not perfect. It is highly unlikely that the tire shop dumped enough equal into your tires to even notice. If you were there the good part of a day and they still aren't balanced, it sounds like you need to take them to a different shop. CALL AROUND and find a shop that is confident in balancing big tires.

Though I trailer my junk to the trails, it does see some roads, and I have never had a serious vibration problem, and mine aren't even balanced. And on my buddies, whos are balanced, there is no vibration to speak of.

And by DD tire I did not mean all-terrain. Anything from interco is a bad choice for a DD. Better choices would be MT-Rs or one of the BFG lines.

Im running 30 oz of air soft bbs in each of my 38 inch TSLs they run ok for 38s on beadlocks.

I tried to balance my LTB's but didn't have enough weights . Said fawk it and run them as is. Absolutely teeth rattling when cold but bearable after 10 min's on the road. Not the DD so I don't care.

This is what caught me wrong, the rest was understood. It seemed to imply that I may be ignorant to the whole bias ply thing. I apologize if I took it wrong.

To me, a DD is something you drive back & forth to work, run errands in, go to the mall, etc. Not something you drive to the wheelin spot when it's time to play.

They did not have enough weights to balance them & did not figure this out until I had been there all day. Since I was already pissed, they suggested the "equal" & said it was better anyway. I didn't know what it was & still don't, but I agreed & off I went. I am a reasonable person & know exactly what to expect out of bias ply mudders, but these things are ridiculous. It is like driving on pentagrams.....no exaggeration. I am going to check around as suggested & see if anyone can do any better than they did, I think they just wanted to get me out of there. Thanks for all the suggestions everyone!:icon_thumby:

just put the bb's in yourself and be done with it

Not a problem, man. I never meant to imply that you were ignorant, just wanted to clarify that they will never be perfect. I recently swapped out a set of TSLs on my ranger for a set of all-terrains, the tsls were balanced, but I didn't balance the all-terrains. The unbalanced all-terrains ride like a cadillac compared to the balanced tsls.

And just so you know, LTBs were designed as an economy mudder, so yeah, they are a little "rougher" than most, but it is possible to get a "decent" ride out of them.

I expected them to be a little rough & that was no biggie, but it is impossible to explain how bad these are..... But I am being redundant.

I am, however, ignorant as to what this "equal" is & what it exactly does, I assume the BB's serve the same purpose?? :icon_confused:

Get them pad balanced. I've had everything from 33" TSL's to 38" TSL's pad balanced and it is a day and night difference from traditional balancing. I've ran bb's as well and they were good but IMO pad balancing is the only way to go. It runs me around $75 to get a set of four done but it's worth it. After about 5 miles once the tires warm up it is smooth as glass 80mph down the interstate and no vibrations, just noise.

Equal is a powder that you put inside the tire. It does serve the same purpose as the BBs.

Never heard of pad balancing, :icon_confused: but thanks marvilusone, I will definitely check into that!! I love the noise, they can never be too loud for me!! :icon_thumby:

Also, thanks shran, I had no clue what the he?? "equal" was. Now I"m starting to get the idea. :icon_thumby: All I have ever known was weights, pretty much know nothing about balancing.:dntknw:

Just another perk to TTB. :icon_thumby:

I run 265/75r15 winter tires on my ranger 5 months of the year and my 36" swampers the rest of the year and have never notcied any difference in wheel alignment between the two. No odd tire wear, no pulling, no steering wheel off center. Not quite sure what you are getting at.
