For you guys that have used summit for ordering things i have a few questions.

what is their customer service like? do they ship fast? is it packaged right or all just thrown into a box? would you recoment buying from them? waht is the quality of their houde brand stuff?

im getting ready to rebuild my 302 and will have it bored and stroked i will go with name brands for the major stuff, like berrings crank pistons and gaskets but what is the quality on their valve covers, timing covers and chains and such?

do they really have the best prices or are there better deals to be had?

I LOVE Summit Racing, I know plenty of people who rebuild Classics and they all go through Summit Racing for the most part. I trust them alot and like theyre service. We have one Locally in town ( 1/3 ) in the Nation, so were pretty lucky.

so im assuming they are like tucker rocker for motorcycles? i work in a motorcycle shop and they have distribution centers around the nation, so my parts shouldnt take that long to get here in so cal

I love summit racing! I order stuff from there a lot and get it shipped to me, and with almost every order, they include a gift bag full of random coupons, summit racing stickers, and even some random things like the new shick quattro razor...haha i got like 3 of them for free from summit. Customer service is great, and the parts are good quality, and come packaged in bubble wrap stuff in a summit racing box. The only problem i ever had is i once ordered a jet thermostat and the package looked to be open....i was kinda worried that someone may have switched it with a reg. one, but oh well....

I use Summit all the time and always had good luck with sales and shipment. Never bought any of their own brand but stuck with the know name brands..

i love summit, they have awesome customer service and prices. ill always be using summit

Have you checked out rockauto.com?

Rockauto is good, but mostly for replacement parts. If you need performance parts you need to go elsewhere. On that note, Summit doesn't carry many parts for minivans.

I've ordered parts from Summit before also, shipping is mostly pretty quick, prices fare, etc. So I keep on ordering from them.

i probably wont ever use summit racing ever again.... not that i ever had any issues with them or anything, but they charge you for shipping and since there's one in ohio they charge me for sales tax. on top of that they don't have much if anything as far as coupons go. last time i was going to make an order i was buying my lift leaf springs and an exhaust kit, total came out to just over $500 plus s+h, sales tax and oversized shipping fees... added up to just over $600. found a different website i went with instead, had all the same stuff as summit at the same exact prices, but they shipped it all ups ground for free and since they are out of state i didnt get charged sales tax. on top of that, i had a $100 off coupon for a $500 order. my $600 order from summit went down to $400 from streetsideauto.com, i saved $200 just for doing a little research. check out retailmenot.com for coupon codes

I know. But he didn't mention what exactly he was doing. Anyway yes I find some of the best deals on parts there. I haven't actually ordered yet (funds issue) but that's where a lot of my parts are coming from. The parts that aren't available on RA.

Kunar does bring up some valid points. However, on the last order I placed (PA body lift pucks and a starting battery) the prices were less expensive through Summit than sidestreetauto.com, even including shipping and handling costs. I did check them out because I've heard good things from people on TRS about them. I'll continue to check prices on several websites/local stores when possible and make purchases based on stretching my few dollars to the fullest.

Summits awesome. They just need the coupons like Whitney has. I get one every 3days form them for free shipping. The only thing I hate is when shit is on backorder then i look somewhere else.

Pricing difference is hit and miss between the two, on every one of my orders there was at least one thing that I needed that streetside didn't have... so I kept going with Summit.

Customer Service is great, I have returned a couple things to them and they have never hassled me about it. From Ohio to here is 3 days and is packed well.

For aftermarket stuff (like intakes) they blow away a parts store... bad. For oem type stuff it is about a wash. For factory replacement type stuff (water pump, oil pump and pickup, gaskets, dizzy, seals...) I went with the local parts store. I made a 3 ring binder to keep my receipts in so I can not only know/prove where I bought what and when, but in 10 years when X part wears out I know what I used. Summits customer service is good, but if you have a problem you are a week out on getting another as opposed to walking in and out of a store and being ready to go again. The local parts store was within $50 on the carb so I went with them on that too, something that intricate I would prefer to have a live person to deal with. Intake, headers, Efans, oil filter adaptors, fan controller... odd stuff like that I got from Summit. I do know from when I was going to rebuild a 302 they beat the tar out of parts stores for pricing on internal guts.

Most major parts stores have their products online so you can check pricing and see what the damages will be without going to the store.

The only things I can think of I got Summit branded were the valve cover spreader bars and carb spacer, they have simple jobs but seem to be working ok. For stuff like timing chains and internal parts I think I would stay name brand

I use several sources for parts. I've used Summit, Jegs, and Rock Auto. Personally, I think Rock Auto has the worst shipping prices, but still often have the cheapest solutions even with shipping.

Since you are building a 302, chances are a Mustang site will have what you need. Let me refer you to a couple of great sources I use for Mustang parts. I use Late Model Restoration, they have a flat shipping rate of 15 dollars, and have competitive prices. These guys also have their own brand, which is of good quality. My favorite as of late has been CJ Pony Parts because they ship for free, and are constantly having 10-15% off sales. CJ's also has their own forum that you can ask questions to their staff on. CJ's also has matched competitors prices for me in the past, and still shipped it for free.
