I wired up my system last night. I hooked my ground up to one of my jumper seats (took one of the bolts apart and put the ring terminal between the seat and nut). When i hooked my sub up to my amp, it hits..but just randomly, not with the song. Any ideas on whats going on?

I pulled up the carpet between the rear seats, drilled a small hole in the floor, sanded off the paint surrounding the hole, and screwed down my ground wire there. You might want to try that. Worst case scenario, it won't solve the problem.

Is the amp staying on as the sub acts funky?

grind off some of the paint around the bolt. I believe those brackets are painted.

I had a system wired up in my Ranger for awhile. I pulled off the two back speakers for the signal (the Rockford Fosgate amp I ran had a special input for that or you could run RCA cables from a sub out on a headunit). IIRC power was a 4 gauge run off the battery with a 40 amp fuse. I pulled a bolt for the jump seat and cleaned the paint off down to bare metal then put a 4 gauge ground on. It was fine for awhile, then I upgraded my amp and started popping the power fuse. Upgraded to a 60 amp slow-blow and the amp fried. Near as I can tell, the ground just wasn't good enough. Grounding to the body or frame is only as good as the grounds FROM THE FRAME OR BODY to the battery. And around here all that stuff gets rusty and corroded in no time.

So I took a page from a lot of the professional setups and ran a 4 gauge wire directly from the amp to the negative terminal of the battery (ground). Never had a problem after that.

I miss my system sorely, my Ranger is parked until I can spare the time and money to fix the cancer and the subs need replaced since Best Try wouldn't honor the extended warranty on 'em. My F-150 has no subs cuz I don't really have room for them.
