sub advice needed

Either I missed it or you didn't specify what kind of head unit you have. If you have the stock head unit or don't plan to change it, I'd say amp the speakers first. If you have an aftermarket HU, I'd say do your subs first.
With a good HU and speakers, you may not need an amp.
In my last post I mentioned the benefits of an amp, but I don't have one and don't plan in getting one. It all depends on the type of music you listen to and the volume you listen at. I can really crank my system without an amp, but I normally don't listen at super high volumes. It's not until I crank it up super loud that I can tell the limitations of not having an amp. At the same time, you need to have enough power going to your speakers so your sub(s) don't drown them out, so it's your call. Keep us posted!

my headunit is a sony CDX-GT32W. I know not the greatest but it was a christmas present and I like it. Usually I listen to my music as loud as i can without hearing any distortion with the bass all the way up. For some song, this is enough, but for others it just doesnt cut it. Ive been debating what to do next for a while, so i guess ill be thinking about this some more.

If i were to get an amp for my speakers, would i want one more than 60wrms x4 and just not turn it up all the way? Any suggestions for decent affordable amps? thanks for the help guys.

I'm not experienced enough with car amps to offer an opinion.
There was a bit of disagreement in another audio thread as to whether or not an amp should supply more or less power than the speakers RMS wattage rating.

Keep in mind also that with subs, you can cut some bass from the other speakers, allowing them to play louder. You might want to try turning the bass down on the setup you have now, crank the volume and see how it sounds. Bass is going to be the first thing to clip a speaker at high volume, so with the bass dialed down, you'll get more volume. An amp will still give you the best possible sound quality, though.
