Stutters after going from park to reverse

I have a 98 2.5l 2wd ranger. Fantastic truck! But, for a few years now, she will stutter or die out on me when I shift from park to reverse from a cold start. Also, sometimes, during highway speeds, she will hesitate to accelerate when I press the throttle. Does anyone have an idea of what could be the culprit and any fixes? I recently changed the fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, air filter and intake sensor.

Plug a code reader into it and check the sensor ranges. Sometimes a sticking IAC or some other sensor that's f-d will cause that sort of thing.

Sounds like the transmission acting up.

Thanks guys. I'll see if I can get someone to pull any codes for me, but so far, there hasn't been any check engine lights. My IAC does look dirty and burnt though, and I haven't changed any sensors other than the intake sensor. Do you know on any way to check the sensors? ie, can I hook up a volt meter and check to make sure it's putting out the right amount? I'm planning on changing my atf this weekend. do you think that would help? I have to do it anyway.

Aloha,
Ray
