Stupid racing bet...

If i were a bettin' man, my money would be on the GP!

When I had my '90 Ranger dyno'd in '06; my 2.9L backed with an auto trans reached a peak of 98Hp and 120 or so lbft.

I dynoed my 88 with a 5 spd last year at UTI (was the one with the single roller in the floor). 110hp with the filter box.112hp without the filter box. That was the best I got. So it IS true that with a cone filter strapped on to the TB, you WILL gain at least 2 hp but you will probably suck in a lot of dirt and water. I would recommend sticking with the stock intake.

Yeah, not gonna happen. I tried racing a 3.1 Pontiac with my '90 supercab 4x4 2.9 5-speed, and got SMOKED. Then I went home and grabbed my '96 2wd shortbox S10, and got her by like half he track! That truck was uhh, not stock.

Ranger had a ported throttlebody and intake, and the airbox bottom cut off (it was part of my effort to get rid of the factory ram-water intake.

your screwed, but not so much if your a singlecab/shortbed/unlifted and remove extra belts, clutch fan, doors, hood, fenders, seat, or pretty much anything not needed, what were you thinking btw?

The years they made both the cavalier and the sunfire. I guess it safe to say they never offered a V6 in the sunfire. I might have been wrong about the V6 bu they never put the 3.8 in it. BTW that quad 4 was a shit pile too.

If your interested an dont believe me it has been done to a cavalier or sunfire check out v6z24.com.I had a cavailer i done a 3.4 swap in no problem,My dad has a sunfire 2.2 never had any major problems with hes untill reasonly afue months ago i blew a head gasket an it has well over 2k.. I am not starting an arguement or nuthing i enjoy fords an chevys. I know alot about the gm v6s 3.1, 3.4 ,3.5 ,3.8 ,3.9 check out youtube gm v6 in cavalier or sunfire.

My 97 Pontiac Grand Prix GT has the 3800 series engine and 200,000 miles and will still show you everything on the speedometer (if you got the guts to hold it down) and will still make you wet yourself around some corners

The Series 1 3.8 is probably one of GM's better motors.

AJ

The series1 was an awesome engine, on par with the 4.0 Cologne.

I had one in my 78 Olds, and with a leaky old carb that badly needed tuned, 120 miles an hour (I'm guessing. The speedo was set up just like a gen 1 Ranger and the needle was at 6:00) and she was still accelerating when I let off the gas.

back in the early 70's, i was stationed @ grand forks air base. worked with a guy that talked way more than he worked. he usually talked about his car: dodge 383. one hot, summer day i'd had enough and offered to race him with my '66 scout 4 banger. month's paycheck as that's how we were paid then.
he jumped all over that offer stating "any time, any place."
"January 6th, back 40 of the supply bldg., 200 yds out and back" i replied.
dead silence from all the other co-workers there.
"wtf man, you think i'm stupid?"
everyone laughed and teased him about it for weeks. needless to say, he didn't race me that next January. he also didn't talk so much about his car.

it's like i always say, it's not so much what you drive as how you drive that makes the difference.

Those 3800s are excellent motors. I predict that you shouldn't have run your mouth off about your badass 2.9. Admittedly, the 2.9 has the coolest intake plenum ever placed on an EFI engine, but it's only a little 170cid mill under that tunnel ram looking thing.

I know it's in fun, but don't kill anyone.

I never stated I ran my mouth off, and have a lot more common sense than to do that. I know unless I have a souped up 2.9 I'd never beat a 3.8 balls out, it was just a silly "Ford vs. Pontiac" bet. I should have stated that if anything the guy with the Grand Prix is the one who runs his mouth.

We haven't raced yet and we may not ever.
