stupid question about rangers and explorers

my friend and myself are shopping for a lift for his exploder i have a 90 ranger 2wd and he has a 94 exploder 4x4 mine has a rough country 2wd lift for it and we are looking at the possibility of getting the 4" 4x4 kit from rough country for the ranger to install on the explorer is this interchangeable or is it strictly application specific i know i have had the rough country kit on my ranger for nearly 4 years now which i installed myself and have been quite happy with it and i have been under several 4x4 rangers and see no obvious difference between the ranger and the explore other than differential size and the explorer will require an axle flip to place the springs on top of rather than under the axle.

Yes, it will work . But cause the Exploder is heavier, a 4'' kit will sit about 3'' from stock. 2'' spacers would put it at 5'' with ther 4'' kit.

I would just put a 6'' kit in the front and change the rear to a SOA setup. Then roll some 33'' tires.

I haven't heard anything bad about rough country equiptment. I don't like duff stuff. Skyjacker is also nice equiptment.

Well you don't want to do an axle "flip"... you just want to move the spring perches to the top of the axle.

If you've got a drop plate for the passenger side axle beam, then you do NOT want to use that piece for the explorer. But if you've got a drop bracket then you'll be ok.

Jay, whats wrong with Duff? That's about the highest quality stuff you can get. Rough Country is closer to the bottom.

Actually, the axle isn't flipped so it's not. It's a Spring Over Axle conversion, or SOA.

Thank you for trying to correct me after more than a year and a half, but you are still wrong. You are not "flipping" anything, a "flip" would entail rotating the axle housing end over end so that what was the top of the housing is now on the bottom. Which will not work for several reasons but that is besides the point. The correct term is spring over conversion and only that.

My nomenclature originates from years of building offroad vehicles out of stuff from the junkyard, not chrome covered plastic from AutoZone

ROFL Its On Now.... I know about the Reason why you cant flip end over end, It reverses the Rotation of the axle at the tires, and what once traveled forwards would now travel backwards LOL I have actually done that, I lost all forward gears in a tranny when I had to do that too

Reverse is wonderful when it works

We call that an Axle Reversal, Not an Axle Flip

the rough country lift is junk. i have it on my truck and i've eliminated all but the passenger drop bracket. and i have a skyjacker one sitting in the garage.

the bolt holes line up ok, and the strenght i've never had a problem with (tho i have read storys of ppl who have). the shocks limit down travel when you throw extended arms on. not sure if they do with stock arms.

also the drop plate on the drivers side is killer. and i'm not a fan of blocks for the rear.

if you are familar with the parts required to lift our RBV's, i'd recommend piecing a lift together. things will be much cheaper and then you only have to do it once.

Well the Guy that owned the Exploder we were working on Is a Dick, He was my friend, And we have since parted ways. He did end up going with the rough country 4x4 kit and personally I could care less if He fell off the Planet
