Thanks to the guys who replied with helpful hints and to the guys who suggested buying a new one, you never learn anything by giving up, I assume you guys all drive new trucks.
To the guys who suggested buying stuff of e-bay, please notice my location. By the time I get screwed for transport and then by the government it will have cost four or five time what the article is worth.

its a tool just like socket or wrench,buy cheap....bust your knuckles instead of bolts.

you can either cut wood or take turns using it as a glider.

but i do understand using what ya got to.not trying to insult ya!

When you have to pile up 3 or 4 cords for the winter you learn plenty about chainsaws. I wish I would have learned to give up on the last Poulan Pro a lot sooner--that one melted the brake housing right off. I don't have time to spend a couple hours with the little carb apart--though I have many times. They are very simple and lend themselves to tinkering by the meanest of intellects. I get an hour here or there to do that type of work and I get after it.

When you heat with wood, espcially with older woodburners that aren't very efficent, you learn quickly That you could cut X amount of wood in the hour that you are screwing with the saw. When I go cutting I bring two saws, I don't have the time to fix the saw, that's what winter is for.

My Husky 51 has been rebuilt once already and it needs a mixture adjustment whenever the season changes. I don't have time for equipment where the manufactuer thinks they need to protect me from myself.

It just like with any other tool...Buy the good one once, or buy the POS 4 times before you go and buy the good tool. I learned a long time ago which is the better choice here.

My 10 year old truck is the newest piece of mechanical equipment I own, BTW. Brand new with almost 200,000 miles. Oldest is a 1909 Novo engine that still ocassionally sees time running a pump.

I've got a Stihl 011 that was passed from my grandpa to my dad and then to me. Damn thing just won't quit, and I hope it never does. I also have an early 60's McCulloch and a Homelite XL2. Both good saws for what they are, but they don't see much use.

Most of my tools are old as hell. My lawnmower is a Coast to Coast brand (remember them?) and has gone through two engines. My weed eaters, Homelite Bandits, are yard sale finds. Of course they needed quite a bit of work but I don't mind.

Sorry, could not resist. Some those new 2-stroke engines have only one adjustment. Either an idler screw or high speed mixture, maybe both. I know my Stihl chainsaw has an low & high mixture, plus idler screw. But I never needed to adjust it from the factory. Runs great when its 40*F or below.

As for my dad's old Poland chainsaw. Hope you got a good arm, you'll be playing yo-yo for the next 10 mins.

It might be a mute point but double check the fuel line in the tank...if it has a crack it will not get fuel corrctly to the carb. Take it out & pnch i beween your fingers under a magnifing glass look for cracks


ALSO for those Stihl fans...yeah I'm one too....just stay away from the 361...once running its great....VERY fussy as to how long the choke is applied. Pa had a 056 prior to this 361...wish we had the 056 back

As a Husqvarna and Echo dealer, I am a little biased. But if you ever find yourself looking for one, any of the top 3 (Stihl, Echo, and Husky) are worth the investment. Do be careful though, Husky and Stihl do make some "Home Depot" saws as well.

Yup...

On the huskies, make sure there is a metal ID tag that says "Made in Sweden", other wise it's a POS.

It's been a few years since we bought a new one, but that was generally the rule, about 5 years ago.

Bought a Stihl 038 Super in 1989 after Hurricane Hugo came by. I've cut countless cords of hardwood with a 24" bar and many more cords with an 18" bar. It broke a through bolt once but with fresh fuel it always cranks and never complains.

Two types of carbs?

Got to sure about manufactures but I have rebuilt a MTD 2 cycle for the forth time on the cheap!!! I found this weed wacker in the trash. I flat out brought a new carb because I wanted to make sure that I had the reserve in-case I were to have something fall-apart as soon as I opened it. The result.. new carb great, The old carb cleaned up nicely and now I got a spere for my{eh} brush,. I mean wed-wacke4r. By the way I heard stories about roboty=e
something like the carbs are fixed unless u got po-poo tool to adjust-em and ontop of all theres only 1 crappy adjustment!

I would NEVER buy a brand new vehicle, That is throwing money away! I also did not buy either of my Stihls new. When you get completely frustrated with trying to fix this one and it pops its cork, buy a good used Stihl and you will be happy for years.
