Ok. I'm swapping trannys. I'm taking an FM146 out of an 89 BII, and putting it into a 86 BII (auto.) I already got the stupid auto trans out of the 86 and am ready to drop the trans on the 89, but I can't get the stupid quick disconnect apart! It's pissing me off royally. Can anyone help and tell me how to get this bitch apart without breaking anything?

Thanks!

Kevin

There should be a small white ring clip, you push that into the housing, towards the tranny, which releases the tiny metal fingers holding the line in. Then you pull the line out, sometimes it helps to push the line then out. You can use the tool, or a small flathead. Usually pretty easy after the first time:D

Ok. That's what I thought too! Mine must be siezed or very stubborn, because everything was going fine until this little bastard. Haha. Thanks man!

just slow down and take your time to make sure the ring is completely seated in there. if it's even slightly gnarled up on the end it won't go flush. unless you kinda tap it in with a flat screwdriver and hammer. easily wiggle it out. if you go to hard it might pop back out a little. that's what worked for me after fighting it for 4hrs.

nice how ford make the quick disconnect seem so easy to remove. which it is when brand new sitting on a factory floor when they designed and tested it. lol
now after some time and dirt? someone needs to show ford real world testing on these kinds of things. lol

Well The white plastic is a lil' chewed up, but I've been fighting with it for days. I'm at the brink of getting an old style bellhousing and setting up the external slave setup. I've tried tapping with a screwdriver, no luck. I'll give it one more day....then I'm ripping that damn thing out.

Go the junkyard and get a new clip....

You dont want to rip it out or cut the line, they are like $50 new.

I had the same problem. Finally got it apart by using a small, thin bladed screwdriver to push the white plastic sleeve COMPLETELY into the collar; then rotating the collar back and forth clockwise and counterclockwise with a pliers while first pushing in and then pulling on the metal fitting. Took a few tries, but it worked.

Use a tiny screwdriver ,,I use the ones that come with stihl products, work all the way around the white ring , mine was a split ring,,while pushing in on the line. A few hours and crefully selected curse words and it should come right out.

I used a sawzall on the line on the slave cylinder side of the quick disconnect. Once the tranny was out, it was very simple to get the quick disconnect apart. I was installing a new slave cylinder so it didn't matter that I destroyed the old one.

I couldn't get mine loose at all. The white collar was very mangled and wouldn't budge. I ended up removing the tranny with the master cylinder still attached. Then I drove out the the roll pin that holds the whole quick disconnect into the slave cylinder. I replaced the slave cylinder and put the old QD back in and drove the roll pin back in. It's not pretty, but it worked and I didn't have to buy a new hydraulic line.

Wrap a piece of wire (I usually use gauge 12 because I have a bunch around the house) around that groove and tuck or mash it in to help scoot the collar down. It'll do the job without damaging the collar, and will usually work even if the collar is damaged.

Well I NEVER did get mine apart so I just unbolted the master cylinder and worked around the brakelines and finally pulled out the whole cable and all out of the cowl and removed it with the transmission. Buit I never claimed to be too smart!:icon_idea::bawling:
