I noticed today driving around town that my ranger's acceleration was somewhat diminished. After getting it in the garage, there was a great deal of heat coming from the left rear tire. Is this a stuck parking brake or something else? Thanks.

I cant give you an answer because I can physically look and inspect the rear brake on your truck. Take the tire off and so some inspecting. Im guessing you got drum brakes, 10"?

Usually a stuck PB...I used to have to yank on the cable to get mine to release...and then I could drive normally...and the rear drums would heat up like crazy...that's a sure sign of stuck brakes...and that leads to bearing wear eventually...too much heat reduces the lubricant in your axel...maybe time to change the cables, grease the shoe contacts, and spend, spend, spend...

But it's cheaper than doing the rear axel replacement...if that's any consolation...

when my truck was running, I had this happen to me, the trick is to hold the parking brake release and pushing the parking brake pedal a few good times to try to release it this was a temporary fix til I was able to remove the drums and replace/repair w.e springs popped off and what not. but same problem happened to me while doing a burnout then noticed the car had no power from a dead stop..... brakes were stuck. G/L
