Hey I have a picture but I don’t know how to get my cross pin out. It is notched and hits the ring gear. Is there a way to get it out without grinding down the teeth on the ring gear??

Will it go out if you push it out the other way? Are there ground teeth on the opposite side of the ring gear?

I ground one down many years ago . It only takes a little bit to get it off . Never had any problems .

Okay thank you I will just have to try that then I guess. I was hoping I didn’t have to but I guess that’s what everyone is saying to do. I’m just curious how they get it together if you can’t get it back apart.

You reinstall it thru the same tooth you ground . Some of the 7.5 have a pin that will come out without grounding . Don’t know why there is two different ones .

Yeah makes no sense to me but it worked and that’s all I needed so thank you so much bro

as the ratio gets higher the ring gear gets thicker. 4.10 right?
I've had to grind one down.
the biggest problem will be keeping it clean. any residual from the stone can reek havoc on gear 'n bearings.

if you are going to pull the carrier the ring can be removed once it's out, then the pin comes out.

Anybody know how to read these? From my rear diff

'3L73' is 3.73:1 limited slip.

I've never seen a 3.73 that needed a notched pin or ring gear teeth clearance. You might want to count the ring teeth and divide by the pinion teeth to verify.

Yeah, it says 3.73 lsd and 7.5 size.

The ratio should be on the ring gear somewhere if you rotate it around. 4.56s are the only set of gears for a 7.5 that need grinding IIRC.

So if I have a 4.56, I don’t need the notched pin? I wonder why it is in there.

You'll need a notched pin *or* relieved ring gear teeth to clear a thick ring gear as used in higher numerical gear sets. Notched pins won't allow removing the pin from the carrier, but you can remove the pin retaining bolt, rotate the pin 90 degrees to allow the axle to slide in far enough to remove the C clip for axle removal. This is the way I prefer to do it rather than grinding the ring gear. To get the pin out with a notched pin you have to remove the carrier and knock the ring gear off.

Count your ring/pinion teeth.

Okay thank you. I’ll give you more info tomorrow because I’m done working on it for today.
