Here's a random question I've been wondering all day. I was working on a 1990 Ranger at the junk-yard today but I couldn't get the hood open :icon_twisted: no matter how hard i yanked on the hood release inside the truck and the hood latch by the grille this thing would not budge. I need a few things under the hood, including the front grille, so I can't damage the grille to get it open. Any suggestions? I was thinking a crow bar, haha. I've pulled on the hood latch cable too, still won't budge. It makes you feel pretty stupid when you can't get a hood open on a car at a JUNK YARD, but apparently no one else could either as there were signs of struggle.

Take a hatchet or claw hammer (use the claw) and chop at the metal of the hood near where the hinges are until you get through. Basically cut around the hinges. Then pick up on the hood and rotate until something snaps or it releases.

It's the redneck way of doing things. :D

are you allowed a cutting torch in? :) My brothers 91 was really tough to open till you figured out how to do it. You just had to squeeze hard! right before you thought it was going to break it would release, but sounds like you gave it your all...

good thinking! any other suggestions?

wish i had a cutting torch, my life would be so much easier

take the hood latch off, 10mm ratcheting wrench or something should get it off...

Every now and again my 88' hood gets stuck...I just push on the hood where it latches and, while pulling, bent the handle in the grille. Finally it released, then I readjusted the handle :D. I have oiled that thing several times. The guy that had it before me must have been tough on that truck (the transfer case was separated along the seam and I had to replace it!).
