I currently have 31" Bridgestone Duelers on my '01 edge, and they look awesome, but my gas mileage absolutely sucks because of them. Plus having the 3.0 w/ 3.73 gears doesn't help. I never go offroading, so it's kind of pointless to have them. What tire do you guys recommend I go with so that I get the best gas mileage possible? Also, what would be the best size? I'm looking for a cheap tire. Thanks.

I bought some Douglas from walmart

They are solid raised white letter tire and good for gas mileage too just stay as close to factory as you can stand 215/70/15:derisive:

im assuming the truck is 4wd and has 15'' wheels?if so i wouldnt go any smaller than a 235/75/15, if its 2wd i would stick with the stock size which was probably a 225/70/15. i work for discount tire and know we do a good job and we guarantee the best price so i would reccomend discount. oh and a 235/75/15 is about a 29'' tire so it is significantly smaller than your 31''s

I don't have a cheap tire to suggest but I bought Michelin LTX M/S tire for pavement use and my gas mileage did go up a little compared to the original 31" BFG A/T tires. I stayed with the original size but the Michelin tires seem to roll more free.

Another coice from Michelin is the cross terrain. One size they make is real close to a factory tire and real quiet while being grippy. 265/70/R15. Also, it's a standard load so it won't wreck your ride quality.

My parents Explorer came with them from the factory, very nice tire.

Thanks for all the suggestions! And BTW it is 2WD, not 4x4. I've been looking into the Michelin LTX M/S tires. They seem like a really good road tire and still look nice to boot. I've seen several rangers with them on. They probably aren't that cheap, but if I could sell my Dueler's on Craigslist (they have less than 10,000 miles on them), it wouldn't be a problem.

you cant go wrong with michelins, either way the ltx or cross terrains are both great tires but you will pay more for them.

I'm just wondering...if I go ahead and buy the Michelins, I think they are around $135 per tire, however I'm sure I could find someplace that has a deal, like I think NTB has buy 3 get one free right now plus a $50 gas card. Anyways, so lets say that the tires themselves comes out to be $400ish. Then you have to pay for them to mount and balance them plus labor and tax. I don't know how much that would cost in total. But anyways, even if I can get a decent amount for my Dueler's by selling them, I still am going to be paying a decent amount up front for the Michelins. My whole purpose of getting better rolling tires is to save money on gas. I just don't know if it would be worth it to spend the extra money on the Michelins when I might not even save enough gas in the long run to pay for the cost of the new tires. What do ya'll think? My truck only has 87,000 miles, and I plan to drive it for a long time.

The michelins may be expensive, but they will help with mileage (if in stock size) and will last a very long time, assuming you dont abuse them. We had a set of 205/75/15 of the ltx/ms go through three different vehicles and racked up a TON of miles and still have good tread left now that they are just spares. Matter of fact the only real reason i replaced them is because my dad flat spotted them when some dear ran across the road in front of him. If your worried about the cost, id look into either a Maxxis MA-751 or a Uniroyal Tiger Paw. The uniroyals look just like michelins, but cost a lot less, and the maxxis are a really good tire as well. We have put a bunch on for people at work, and i havent heard any complaints, and our customers let us know when we screw up.

I bought 4 Firestone Indy 500's from TireRack at 73 bucks a piece, they look great and are quiet, i get about the same mileage i got with my original Continentals that sucked. Size 225/75R15.

Stock size, BFG Long Trails are pretty good if Michelins are too pricey.
