Storage for extra cab

I'm sure some of you have built or bought storage for the extra cab are in a ranger. I would love to see what you have done.

CrabGuy made this, it's really nice. chances are you don't have the middle hump so it would be even easier. more pics if you need. I was going to do it for the B3000 but then I got the XLT which has tool box in back, plus no rear doors so I don't use the behind-seats as much. There has to be a little clearance to the seats if you want to be able to slide them back / recline all the way.

to add, if you keep the jack in its oem place, if it's like mine, in the pocket behind the folding seat, you'd want to make sure you can get to it, or, move it to the tool box.
I've found the Kobalt tool box it came with highly useful and I don't worry so much about behind the seats. Also, if yours is like mine, you may have a pull-out cargo cover so you could hide things.
My main concern at the time was making a flat platform for the dog, along with storage, and something like CrabGuy's works really nice for that. But the dog doesn't care, and, I don't use the '99 much now, it's sorted, I should sell it, I just make sure I exercise it often, otherwise I'm mostly in the '97 because it has more creature comforts.
Admittedly the tool box does shorten the bed - it has about 5" under it, which isn't highly useful except it lets you get long things in, depending what it is. But you can take the box out for special purposes, I haven't, but it doesn't look like it would be very hard.
One of the huge issues (to me) about the '99 is, like you see there, the jack mounts to the rear while on yours, again if it's like mine, it should be just smooth there. Technically for the later ones you should be able to get a smooth panel to fit in the middle but I don't see them much (means jack was mounted elsewhere). CrabGuy has the jack etc mounted inside this box, there's still plenty of room left.

That storage box has worked very well so far. Even with the jack I have plenty of room for long guns when going to the range. I have a toolbox also in the bed for stuff like shovel, jumpers, tools, straps, and oil.

and the cargo net across the back does pretty good at hiding the back panel. it's a win.

It seems like that would be horribly hard to get behind the seats; unless you were thinking of that for the bed.
-and so expensive. There is no end to accessories to sell you for your truck but seems like a lot of them are just places to get rid of money that is burning a hole in your pocket.
I found a couple wood boxes in the basement just taking up space so they could work for organizing, say, picnic stuff. Then there are of course the cheap plastic storage boxes.
Fish boxes (about 15" x 12" by 6") are really good for organizing small things, but I don't know if you can get them anymore. I have some over 30 years old the plastic is rugged and they're waterproof. We used to get them at the co-op then you soak them in the bathtub in water with ammonia, that totally kills the fish smell out of them (it kills moldy/musty laundry smell too).
Not to go too far off topic. I'm just saying I can think of a lot more ways to spend $500 than for one single box.

but I mean - if one box fits all your stuff and it meets your needs and you can afford it - then - it is a nice box.

I don't store much in my '97 since it's just a commuter... I have a new pack of 1" ratchet straps behind the drivers side jump seat and a tow strap and shackle behind the passenger side jump seat with the factory jack then some other various things in the mesh deal on the back wall...

I haven't measured if that size box would fit but the easy way to get stuff in is just take out the passenger seat, it's 4 bolts, I think I did that when I changed the back window the first time (will do again soon to get a slider in and pop out side windows...)...

I wanted to free up my cargo cover, it's balky, you can retract it but it's not smooth operating. Looks like I'd have to take off one of the side panels which gets into a lot of taking-apart. Minor issue, just saying. Taking off center panel doesn't let it get free from its mounts.
Do you really gain much by taking out those side seats? There will be an unsightly hole there?
I have that mesh thing also I guess that is factory. I already have the slider back and pop out side windows, I think you had to order those. Frankly I don't see a lot of use for those side windows, maybe I'm missing something - I guess dogs would like them. It was one of the things I did right off when I got mine was to re-paint the buttons flat black (the 3 buttons that go through the glass) because they had lost their paint and although it seems picky, it's things like that you notice cosmetically right off and takes only a minute to set good.
I bet you can get those parts at junkyard or, maybe, new.

I was saying to pull a seat to install the big box if needed, then put it back (when I got back there to put in the rear window that was broken when I got that Ranger there isn't much room with the seat in place...), my jump seats are still there... you have air conditioning, I don't so it gets stuffy...
