For a 1997 Ranger XLT V6 4.0L what would be the stock inlet and outlet diamters as well as the length of the muffler? I'm looking at getting a Flowmaster 40 for my truck because with my research and all that I've heard from guys posting on the forum that seems to be the best choice.

Thanks,
Mike

I'd save up and get a cat-back. 2" pipes(stock) won't sound good for a flowmaster. You will want 2 /14 or 2 1/2 for a decent sound. You can get bolt-on kits for around 200 dollars from dynomax.

What do you mean? Get a whole new exhaust system? How much does that cost and how easy of a swap is that? Like what are my options and what are each's price ranges?

Thanks,
Mike

Yep that's the same one I ordered from jegs.com. That kit includes 2 1/4" pipes, 3 pieces that attaches from the cat converter to the exhaust tip. Pipe that goes from the cat pipe to the muffler, the muffler and the muffler back. It's all bolt-on, the only thing is getting the old rusty exhaust out. I had to use a metal saw by hand, took about 25 minutes.

So i'm guessing that there is some sort of adapter to connect the 2 1/4 pipe to the 2" pipe at the catayltic converter? And if I want a Flowmaster 40 muffler would I just have to buy that as well and replace the muffler Dynomax gives me, or is there an easier and/or less expensive way?
