Still can't find my horn.

What the hell do you NEED a horn for? What is the "official" reasoning for it being mandatory that it's in working order?

I never use my horn. I prefer obscene gestures.

It is mandatory to have a functioning horn on a motor vehicle.

Well if my brakes fail and I'm doing about 50 towards a child crossing the road, they'd like me to have that horn. Same to alert other drivers that may not be paying attention.

Anyways, I looked under the battery tray. It was there.

When I went to take off the wheel well to get a better look under there I found a wire going to something. I pulled on the wire to follow it and feel if the horn was in there, and as I pulled the horn came tumbling out. It is rusted beyond belief and was no longer attached to my truck. Oh, and I need a new rad support. That's rusted out too.

had the same problem on my truck...Whats worse though is that the horn button didn't work either....So I installed airhorns and put a momentary switch on the shifter...So now if I want to use the horn, I do not have to take my hands off the shifter or steering wheel....

dang, that must suck to have to have your vehicle "inspected" every so often. I got my 84 on the road without it even being seen by anybody, shoot, i didn't even have to be there to get the title in my name and have it registered.

What sucks even more is I just got my truck inspected, and now I'm going to be taking it off the road to buy a car. That will need to be inspected as well, about 23 bucks a pop.

state inspections are $21 in New York, It has to be done yearly

things they check:

-All lights have to work, no cracked lenses.
-Parking brake has to hold the vehicle
-TRE's and Ball joints have to be in good condition (no play)
-Functioning horn
-all tires have to have no less than 2/32 of an inch tread, cannot be badly weather checked,
or have slices or gashes in the sidewalls
-Brake linings cannot be metal to metal
-soft brake lines have to be in good condition
-wipers have to work
-no cracks in the windshield
-seat belts have to function and be securely fastened to the body
-if a car was originally equipped with catalytic converters they have to be there
-all mirrors have to be in good condition.
-Vehicles of year 1996 and newer have to be plugged in to the inspection computer, (unless the GVWR is 8500# or greater) any codes = fail. All the OBD readiness monitors have to be set too, if not = fail (no unhooking the battery or clearing codes right before an inspection)

there are also other things that are kind of discretionary:
-Fuel leaks are kind of a grey area but it is usually if it leaks it fails
-bad exhaust leaks can sometimes be a fail.
-If a vehicle is so rotted out that it is unsafe it will fail as well
(New York has no rust law though)

ha yeah and every one knows where those places are around here, wish i would have gone to one when i got mine inspected cuz i would have been able to leave my 14% tint on instead of my 32now....

And with a car newer than 1996 the inspection will not be legit or legal, I have seen cops scan inspection and registration stickers at roadblocks. If you get a sticker put on and you have not have the emissions tested the sticker will not be in the computer, or it won't be in the computer correctly which could lead to fines and/or your car being impounded. I don't care what you do, just a friendly warning.

The only reason why there are roadblocks around here are for escaped criminals or ones that are on the run. You should have seen how many roadblocks we had for bucky.
