how do you guys clean them? just bought this laptop, amp got spilled on it, now a few keys are sticking? its got a red thing around the keys but i cant figure out how to get it off to swab. its an gateway nv52L06u.

You'd probably have to remove the keyboard from inside the case to do that...I wouldn't try anything other than some compressed air and maybe some rubbing alcohol...but you can probably download the service manual from getaway...er, gateway...didn't know they were still in business...

yea usually there are some tabs hidden pretty well at the top or bottom of the keyboard, then a ribbon cable connector, get the keyboard out then soak it in alcohol and let it dry completely before you put it back in. ive done this to several keyboards, both laptop/netbook, and regular

so dosing the thing in alcohol wont hurt?

I was gonna say....I read THAT title completely wrong....

Electronic cleaner. Buy a can 2 if it's bad. Unplug it. Turn it upside down and get down on it. Then q tip in between.

After that stop looking at girls jumping on trampolines while drinking amp balancing a Kleenex and typing.

Dont just dump alcohol on it. You need to take the keyboard off from the laptop.

Just making that clear, lol.

Alcohol probably won't clean the sugar off as well as straight water. If you use water, I highly recommend using distilled so it doesn't leave anything conductive behind(like minerals). Don't hose it down, either; use cotton swabs. It's going to be tedious no matter what, but that's how you learn the lesson of not eating or drinking over a computer. :icon_idea:

If it is real bad...just purchase a new keyboard off ebay. I is probably $15-$20 if it is an older laptop. You will have to take the keyboard off to clean it anyway. Why not just replace and save the time...you can always clean the old and keep it just in case you have another spill.
