Hello everyone, Ok this is my first Ranger but not my first ford. When I bought the truck I noticed the power steering pump has a bit of a whine to it, not real loud by any means but I notice it. The fluid is at the correct level, it does not seem to have a leak or anything but I am just wondering if this is a common problem or not? Is the pump on its way out, or will it be fine for awhile? What should be my next plan of attack? Thanks everyone!

ford power steering pumps are somewhat notorious for their whine. chances are you dont have anything to worry about. i have 3 fords and all 3 whine (even the brand new one in my red escort).

if its something that concerns you, ive heard flushing the system helps quiet them down.

All are RBV power stearing pumps all wine. Once you here it you know. They have a very destict noice to them.

Thanks guys this makes me feel better. I was just curious more than anything, best part about it was I got the dealer to knock off an extra $200 by saying it sounded like it may need to be replaced:)
