I am currently putting in a alarm system in my 1991 2.3l
2wd ranger and i was wondering what color is the wire for the horn? i think it has tobe negative but im not sure.:D

It depends, on if your truck has cruise control or not.

With cruise:
Yellow / Light Green stripe wire color. These trucks have a horn relay, which switches a low current ground, so you can wire your alarm output directly.

Without cruise:
Dark Blue wire color. These trucks do NOT have a horn relay. They switch high current Positive straight to the horn. On these trucks, you'll need to use a relay to connect the alarm.

Wire location on both is the steering column. Hope this helps, and good luck.

oh wow thank you very much! i do not have cruise controll so it would be dark blue. Would it be worth it to hook up a relay for the horn? if so, how hard would it be?

You'll need to use a relay. If the alarm is just an output, i.e. one wire, it's almost certainly a low-amperage Negative output. If you try connecting directly to a high-current Positive circuit it'll blow the output transistor.

Adding a relay is easy. You need a standard 5-pin relay. The pins (terminals) should be numbered, on the bottom of the relay next to the pins.

Wire it like this:

Alarm output (Negative) to pin #85.

(+) Positive 12 volts to pins #86 AND #87. Just tap off the Light Blue / Orange wire, found with the Dark Blue (it's the horn switch constsnt power feed).

Connect pin #30 to the Dark Blue (just splice it in).

The relay's center pin, #87a, is not used.

Glad to help. Good luck.
