My ranger is a 94 2.3 and is 2wd. This is my work truck and i have had it for about 8 years. I drive it daily without any problems. A couple of days ago i came home and parked it, everything was fine. i just drove it probably 120 miles that day. About 2 days later i went out and started it and when i do it starts then dies in about a second. I mean as soon as it starts it dies. It has a half tank of gas so i know thats not an issue. If i give it gas as soon as it hits it tries to rev then it still dies after about 1 second. I would appreciate any ideas as to where i can start to look. Also i drive this truck about 30,000 miles a year and i changed the fuel filter and spark plugs last summer. Also this truck has ran great and wasnt giving me any kind of trouble or signs that something was wrong. Thanks for any help.

Have you checked the fuel filter?

if it was the timing would it even start? the truck starts but only runs for 1 second then its like i shut it off.

When you're starting it keep the gas mashed and see if it still does it. Also, turn the key to "on" but don't start it. See if you can hear your fuel pump working.

If the timing was that far out I don't think it would even start. I say fuel problem since it starts for a sec before it dies. Anything abnormal when it starts up?

it's not the starter wires and it's not the timing.........it is most likely a fuel pressure issue, a bad/drty maf, TB or IACV, check air filter and air intake for blockade or maybe even a big vacuum leak.........any codes?

i think it was the MAF! i took it off to clean it and a spider got in there and made a nest. i cleaned it out real good and cleaned the throttle body and it started up and run just fine. thanks a million guys!

I was gonna guess a gummed up Idle Air Control (IAC) valve...
