I replaced the starter on my '95 2.3L a couple months ago and now have a question. It used to start up right away, but now when I try to start my truck, it just turns over for a few seconds, then starts. It didn't used to do this and I'm not sure how to fix it.

Fuel pressure may be bleeding down.

Try turning the key to Run (listen for the fuel pump run for a second), then key to Off.
Repeat 3x, THEN crank it over.

If it starts better that way, keep doing it (free fix).

Fuel pressure check valve is part of the fuel pump. It may be bad.
Fuel pressure can also bleed off from a seeping fuel filter connection (replace fuel filter), stuck open fuel injector (pull the spark plugs, noting where each came from and examine them. If one is a different color, suspect that cylinder's fuel injector) or a bad fuel pressure regulator (see if there is fuel in its vaccum line..if so replace FPR).

bingo, earl pretty much said it all. I has a similar problem, the check valve in the fuel pump was not working on mine, also the intank filter was not on the pump anymore, which plugged up many fuel filters and probably lead to the detirioration of the pump. So if it turns out to be the pump make sure you attach the filter in the tank to the pump correctly. And please let us know if you solve the problem or not =].

I'll take a look this weekend and let you know what I find out. Thanks!!
