Hi everyone. I just replaced my timing belt on my 1998 Ranger 2.5l. To remove the crankshaft I did the breaker bar trick and hit the starter to remove the bolt.
I checked to see if the timing belt ,etc. was okay before putting everything back together by running the engine with the timing belt cover off and fan belt off. It was hard to start but turned over and everthing looked ok. I then put the rest of the stuff back on. Now it will not even turn over. I hear the starter relay clicking but no go . I switched batteries and still no go. Do you think I jammed the starter? Thank you.

I don't see how you could jam the starter in that way.

Find the voltage drop while cranking. And make sure BOTH your batteries are good. A jumpstart is a better idea....

If it turns at all, the worst probably hasn't happened. Bad timing belt installations can bang valves into pistons.

Try removing the serpentine belt and trying again. Mainly to rule it out.

check the connections at the starter and clean them.
while you are down there, pull the starter and go have it tested too.
may just be a coincidence that the starter crapped at the same time.
