Hello,

Purchased my 2000 ford ranger 2.5 about 2 weeks ago. It’s been about a week now that I’ve been chasing the issue. At first my check engine light came on showing P0171 so I started with the MAF. I replaced the MAF with a O’Reilys part ran worse, swapped with Autozone MAF, still running rough until I put the original back in.

Now at this point the truck turns on after it’s sat for some hours then when it does start it stalls/loses power/boggs. I replaced IAC valve, spark plugs/wires and fuel filter as of tonight. I let the truck run a good 5-10min then jumped in and drove around my apartment complex. I tried to step on it and bogged down didn’t want to pick up speed. I parked it start throwing trash away then put it back in drive stalled/turn off on me. I tried to restart and it wouldn’t turn back on.

Any help would be great!!!

Also found this line not exactly sure what it goes to but I believe it’s a vacuum line as it had suction to it when I had the truck running.

Sounds like a vacuum line. And could absolutely cause P0171 code.

@EasyMonies
There is a manual called a, EVTM.
That stands for,
Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual.
Look on eBay for 1 for your truck.
You'll want to put in year, make and model along with electrical and vacuum troubleshooting manual.
You should be able to get one for under $50.

It will help you a lot and I mean a lot.

sorry to be the noob what parts are these in the passenger side firewall and line in the picture seems to be running from underneath that

I also just hooked up an O’reily fuel pressure test gauge. When I turned the key without turning the truck on I’m pretty sure I didn’t hear the fuel pump prime along with the pressure gauge staying at 0. I attempted to turn the truck on and took a few cranks and the psi was only at 20 but some fuel was pissing out of where the shrewder valve attaches.

AFAIK, the only reason to have a vacuum line there (based on that picture) would be if the HVAC controls use it. IDK if Rangers ever did that. The wife's S10 does. Earlier trucks have the intake there with a valve to flip from heated air (off the exhaust manifold) to the normal intake in the grille.

From your statement Senornoob it sounds like the line wouldn’t have anything with the slow crank/stall issues I’m having but thanks for clarifying it up for me

I'd plug it and figure out where it goes later...

That line is likely connected to your EGR solenoid/cap near the ignition coils, or to the HVAC system. Look for a round ball on the passenger side frame rail
