Stalling with no ignition after

Hey, I have a buddy of mine with a 2002 4.0 4x4 automatic thats been having a weird problem lately. I don't know if anyone can help me out. His ranger has been just cutting out on him, while stopped and now while driving. It's like the motor just loses ignition, the rest of the truck still has power to it like its on. When it does that, it won't crank or anything, no click from starter or nothing. Fuel pump turns on but nothing happens. It only happens once the truck is warm and once it happens the truck has to sit and cool down for about 10 mins or so before it will fire back up. The problem is becoming more and more frequent. The truck does have a custom superchip that was professionally installed a couple years ago, I think it might be a fualty chip. Any ideas on what could cause this problem.

It's hard to say. I have see coils cause a miss after they get hot. Does he have a spare coil to try???
