Yes. People have cracked them, but that was by getting silly with dense stuff like sand and pea gravel.

Ah. That's the kind of stuff I would have delivered anyway. It's just too easy to underestimate the weight of the material.

i didnt knew the sport-trac beds were plastic. i tought they were like the step sides, steel structure with fiber glass sides.

Yeah, they're a heavy composite material. They changed something on the Gen 2's though because the bed in my '08 marks up a lot easier and is a lot slipperier than the bed in my old '05. Upside, the Gen 2's have three storage compartments in the floor so I don't have to carry a space-hogging toolbox around any more.

I don't know about the inside of the bed for hauling stuff, but both of mine are step sides. The 4x4 had a helluva hit in the passenger side fender which stress cracked the paint, but you can't find any damage to it and you can't flex it. My 03 has been hit by cars twice in the passenger side fender enough to knock it sideways and the only thing you see is a rub mark on the paint.. I think if I was to use a plastic bed (like said above) I would cut me a piece of 3/4 plywood that fit the bed so as to protect and give it some more strength.
