sounds like a bad hub to me. does your 4wd actually work?

if your talking about the drivers side axle, yes it pulls out of the differential when the spindle is out of the way. only the passanger side has a c-clip holding it into the diff.

clicking sound when the hub is not locked.....almost like a striped out ractchet sound?......and go's away when the hub is locked?

if that is the case it will be in the red circled section of your hub guts. the hub bearing, may have gotten hot and melted the plastic POS race, or the clip could have come off...fix this ASAP or you will be doing wheel bearing's,bearing,the spindle bearing again. As the clicking sound is the hub drive gear griding against the axle shaft splines.creating all kinds of neat metal chips.

if your going to replace hubs, get the jeep ones. as they replaced the plastic POS with a bronze internal needle bearing assmebly.

Yeah, I think it's probably the hub and definitely going to get the Jeep ones =)

The 4x4 does work but just makes the sound much worse. And yeah, I was talking about the drivers side so that's really good to know that I don't have an additional problem.

Can I just try swapping the hubs before ordering new ones?

definitely. no sense on spending money on new ones if the old ones arent broken.
