I am in need of a set of spider gears and side gears, Are the ones in a 7.5 L/S the same size as in a open differenial? Just checking before I go to the JY. Seems like the L/S are a little harder to find. I think theres a 86 Bronco 2 with the L/S differenial, but figured Id check here before my persuite.
Thanks

The side gears are different on a L/S. You could use the whole Diff.

Thanks

Im not sure what happened to my L.S. but when I took it apart, the side facing the ring gear, the clutch pack had several broken plates and the side gear had teeth chipped and the top and bottom side spider gears were chipped. The opposite side was fine. Not sure what happened, like to find out before I go to the JY shopping Saturday. Not sure whether to replace the whole rear end, for like 75.00 or remove the gears and buy a clutch pack and rebuild mine.

One of the clutch steels broke and got in the side gears/spiders. That is the biggest problem with the trac locs. Carefully inspect the ring and pinion for damage. If they are not damaged you would be better off fixing it. Rebuilding a Trac loc is not easy, It requires a lot of patience. You could replace it with a locker, that would be better and easier. It would cost a bit though.

+1 on the locker, problem is they aren't made for the 7.5 LS. You'll have to put in an open carrier like I did.

probally rebuild

Id definely rather go for the locker, but just cannot afford it at this time, My truck isnt used to much, towing the boat, and light hauling, thats one of the reason I dont want to spend to much money. The ring and pinon seem perfect including the pinon bearing, everything seems to be pretty tight, maybe just salvage the side gears and spider and buy new clutch plate and follow the instructions on this forum. I had and old OD rear that I put in the truck but it has lower gears and I cannot use the 4x4 due to the different ratio, so Ive got the time. Thanks for all responses.
