Speedometer needle wiggles

gears either spin or they dont. the speedo needle bobs up and down because the speedo cable is twisting and un-twisting..thus the speedo sees a speeding up and slowing down of the cable. i cant imagine anything else in the system causing the needle to wobble since its all solid mechanical connections.

ive never had the actual speedo head apart before..i wonder if it could be in the speedo head itself...

I've taken the speedo head out and with the old cable ran it with a drill and the needle dosen't bob at all...so maybe it is that the cable just needs lub all the way down the shaft.

what kind of lube did you use?

I used some speedo cable graphite oil, got it at checker/autozone I think

Problem solved with another junk yard cable...I can only assume that the other cable had too many kinks
