Speed Control on M5OD trans

I am in the process of installing a M5OD trans and am puzzled as to the speed control sensor. On the production B2 it has a speed sensor on the side of the trans (it also had a neutral switch on the top). However, on the M5OD trans it does not have a speed sensor on the trans, only a neutral switch on the top cap. Where is the speed sensor for the speed control? Maybe I have a trans that did not come equipped with speed control.

What? Can we get some more details on your truck man? 2wd? 4x4? Maybe in your sig, fill out the profile a bit more? That information is REALLY helpful in trying to figure some of this stuff out.

M5OD has a reverse switch on the driver's side, a neutral switch on the passenger side.

The speed sensor was in the driver's side of the case on 2wds, and in the T-case on 4x4s up until about 96, when Ford switched over to the electronic driven speedometer and then the signal came from a wheel speed sensor on the rear diff.


What year is your donor trans? That is probably your issue.

The M5OD trans was from a 98 explorer and I am putting it in an 86 B2. The engine was from a 93 Explorer with auto trans which I have converted to a manual (Different Engine control Module, new flywheel/clutch)
 
2wd or 4x4?

If you have 4x4 your factory speed sensor will be in the transfer case, where the speedometer cable goes in. Not all of the 86's had it though, only the CC equipped ones.

2wd or 4wd shouldnt matter on a BII, unless its a '90. All the early ones had the dummy T-case, unless someones been playing games under there.
 
I know they all had the dummy case, but I don't know if it makes a difference in the speed sensor. My old FM145 looks like it may have a case provision for the other style sensor.

It also makes a difference in his current trans.
 
OK I just checked the transfer case and it has a speed sensor right next to the speedo cable connection. On the existing B2 trans I am thinking that the top electrical connector is for the backup lights, but I can't figure out what the other connector (on the side) is used for.
 
It tells the computer if the trans is in gear or in Neutral. It's used to idle quality, and for some odd reason it's wired into the start system.

That is the plug on the passenger side of the shift plate on your M5OD.

If that plug is not present (may not be in 98) just solder the two wires for that plug together and forget about them.

Ok so I'm having the same issue, I'm trying to run a m5odr2 in a 2x4 configuration, I don't belive my trans has a sensor port so is there a way I can add one?
