speakers off amp and headunit

This makes sense to me now! I can visualize just what you're talking about. How about you, Sno?

You're the man, Slim! :icon_cheers:

Thanks, but hopefully that's what he's after. :icon_confused:

I'm envisioning he wants like a semi-portable boombox kinda approach, something to put in the bed and listen to while drinking soda pop with a respectable young lady ..... or uhhh, someting like dat. :icon_hornsup:

It's more important that he understands it, though. I might have been doing installs for 15 years, but I sure as heck ain't going that far to do one. lol

it would work fine if your talking about running your interior speakers off the head unit's power and then adding a external amp to run speakers in the bed.
you wouldnt need 2 amps if you use 2 sets of 4 ohm speakers since each set would have a 2 ohm final load and almost any 2 channel will be stable in 2 ohm stereo (not bridged).

Id recommend mounting a set of power distro blocks that way you can always have power running to the bed and wouldnt have any loose wires after you disconnect the amp and remove it.

^like a set of these

iv actually ghetto rigged this up into my bed when i had the topper, it was cool but i also didnt have an amp at the time so it was very quiet, so i now have the premium sound amp off an exploder for this purpose, and it works pretty well, but it has speaker lvl inputs so i cant help with the rca's, but yes it can be done snomaker321

just open your doors

thanks for all the help guys!

slim, you semi portable boombox kinda thinking is correct. I just want to be able to get a little more sound back there when i want it.

I have done it with the doors open and the window open, but i think it would be better with some speakers in the bed. I might not have to play it as loud.

As per cost, I plan on getting an amp anyways. I have some speaker wire lying around and my old stock speakers still work fine so i can do it for next to nothing. A big part of my wanting to do it is just for the heck of it. I like messing around with things and seeing what I can do.

i understand what you want sno

run your interior speakers of the amp

then for the bed speakers, run the speaker wires off the back of the headunit to the rear of the cab inside. use quick disconnect connectors and when you want to listen to the music in the bed, just connect the wires up in the cab through the winow to the speakers in the bed. this will work fine.

i ran a 10'' sub & 2 6'' seleniums off my amp ,& im runnig PAs mounted in the bed under my toolbox runnin off the stock rear speaker wires off the HU w/ a switch so i can turn it off when im driving

I did not read the whole thread, but i feel this is what you would want, I use Stereo Speaker Selectors all the time at work (I'm a home audio installer)

This is exactly what I was looking for for my original idea. However, I have decided to add an amp so i will have the 4 channels off of the headunit free and can just use those instead.

Thanks. This is exactly what i wanted to do. So now when I get some free time I can get started:headbang:
