Sounds like a belt chirp

I had a chirp on my2007 4.0 V-6 Mustang recently. Only when the electric fan was on and the alternator was working harder. Friend at NAPA said it was the belt tensioner. Put a new one on, along with a new belt, chirp gone.

Back in 2002, had a chirp on my 1998 3.0 V-6 Ranger. Replace the belt and tensioner, chirp went away.

My LIGHTNING has an aftermarket manual tensioner, bolt and locknut. I choose how tight I want the cog belt to be. It doesn't chirp, it whines.

That might work as a temporary fix, I doubt it will last a long time. But then you're only doing 20 miles a week, it might last years...lol

I agree..... and still don't know specifically what is/was chirping.... a "leftover" from the balancing device that was removed in the past, or perhaps it is actually one of the U joints going bad but usually that results in a clunk sound followed by vibration and then you replace both U joints.... but I have not heard or experienced that.... So I am going to shoot down both sides of both U joints at rest with this chain lube that is designed somewhat NOT to fly off but I suspect that will happen at the speeds the drive shaft will turn.... and see if the chirp totally disappears, even if temporarily... and that is a major relief because simply I know what it ISN'T.... My biggest fear $$$ would be a rear wheel bearing going out and I suspect they are a major fix being pressed on and requiring quite a bit of labor $$$$ I have seen them removed but have never done one.... but I think that is now off the table as the cause... but will know more on Monday morning with a fishing trip to the lake.... and if this is the problem, I will probably keep the Ranger.... Next up.... the "floor patch" for the bed arrived yesterday, and I am going to cut that in half because half will cover the hole that happens on a lot of Rangers... however, before I decide to complete that, I have to find out why that side is "sagging" a bit... and suspect it is a failed/rusted/rotted cross member or perhaps a broken spring... although I have looked and don't see any obvious spring failure.... and the fact that there is a i have seen this same hole in other Rangers on the passenger side near the front of the wheel well....... one square foot rust hole in the bed floor right above one of the cross members would be, I suspect, the culprit... ... I have some experience in cross members and of all things have found dept. of transportation sign posts to be similar.... and have used them and even treated lumber cross members to beef up an enclosed snowmobile trailer.... no rust possible there.... and I don't want to install the patch until I have this figured out... just another fly in the ointment.... If all else fails, I can live with the sag... you can see if from the rear but not from the side.... Any other suggestions appreciated....
