I just decided to make a step by step instructional thread to show how i fixed my bug shield.
Heres the story..
Well, i let my father barrow my truck..
and he shattered the bug shield.
I decided after looking for a new one, that i might be able to salvage the old one, after all, what could it hurt? Its just goin in the trash anyway.
So heres what i did to fix it.

First i got some tools, a sharp knife to trim the plastic, a drill, a small bit, some wire, and a pair of plyers.
Something you will probably never do. haha
Then i gathered all the pieces of my shattered shield
Something you will probably never do. haha
Drilled holes in them.
Something you will probably never do. haha
Wired it togeather.
Something you will probably never do. haha
All wired up.
Something you will probably never do. haha
And the final product.
Something you will probably never do. haha
Something you will probably never do. haha
At first i was doing it as a temporary fix, but then i decided i liked it and i think ill name the truck Stitch. haha

if its acrylic, you can buy solvents to glue it and they work quite well. assuming it is acrylic, i would bet those holes will break and crack, it may fall apart anyways. if you can get your hands on some .020 or .030 plex, cut it into strips and glue it to the back where you wont see it.

Im probobly going to get a new one eventualy anyway. So any other cracking/breaking that occurs doesnt realy matter.
Plus, most adhesives wouldnt stand up to the force that the windspeed has when the truck is actualy moving.

the solvent you use for acrylic actually 'melts' the plastic to an extent, and rehardens as it cures. its not just a glue. the joint will be stronger than the surrounding acrylic.

Its been 4 months.
And its only broke once because some d*ckwad in a parkinglot pulled on it.
But i fixed it again, reviving the name of Stitch.
It worked pretty good surprisingly.
I like it.

Old thread FTW.

Duct duck, It's an easy mistake.

And I just realized how sick that knife is I have. It's been laying in my dresser for a while. I think I'll put the camo spring assist back in and start carrying that one.

My bug shield is distributed across several states. There's not too much of it left. The rocks and trees and bushes pretty much took it down to the nub.

I just love the look of the one I have, even more with the "stitches."

I don't think I'll ever drive another truck without one. I hardly ever have bugs or snow on my wind shield when I'm driving. Although I'll never put the metal stitches on one again. Took some paint off my hood from the constant vibration.

this thread looks like a waste of bandwidth. jims paying for you to bullshit about broken bug sheilds. you prolly spent more on fixing this junk then replacing it. now Koda dont get the wrong idea, i was a broke out of college kid at one time and i am in no way comparing you to boggin:icon_hornsup:

This is one of the first threads I ever posted, and there's a lot worse ones for you to hop into and try to flame someone into an argument. And you know what? I spend nothing fixing it. It would cost me around 150 dollars to replace it, and I can't get the exact replacement. Discontinued item from GTS. Oh, and it's broke highschool kid. :thefinger:
