Some good news from FoMoCo

It's not a new idea for having a floor shifter in a Ranger. My 85 and 87 had floor shifters. I liked it but it did get in the way sometimes. Besides, what's the difference in having a floor auto shifter from a manual shifter that is also on the floor?

I know about the first generation rangers having floor shifters. I am set in my ways and refuse to drive anything but them. When I was 15, the first vehicle I learned to drive was my Uncle's 1965 1/2 ton long bed chevrolet which had three on the tree. Both of my current rangers and bother of my former F150s had column shifters.

Can't Wait...Anyone Know How to Get a Euro/Mideast Model US-Legal?

During my last assignment in Bahrain, the US security forces were using Ranger crew cabs. I'd just let my '80 Datsun King Cab go, which I loved but it was on its last legs. I saw Toyota/Mazda/Nissan truly-compact crew cabs all over the place, but knew they'd never be supportable in the US.

I'm headed over there again, so I'd really like to figure out how to make a Euro/Mid-East Ranger crew cab US-legal. Any ideas?

This has already been discussed many times. Use the search function.

Floor/console shifters are something I expect in a Honda Civic, yota-toy camry, or even a lesser truck such as the Tacoma. I like having the floor space free. Besides, how else am I going to pack all 6 of my illegal day workers in the cab with me? :D

LOL!!!:haha:

What does three on the tree mean?

My '84 has a floor shifter, with that very common broken button on the handle.:thefinger:

Ford doesn't listen to random e-mails. They pay consumer analysts millions of dollars to examine trends in the market. They are chasing money. How many of us have bought a new vehicle of any type? Those purchases were your vote. If you had bought a brand new Jeep Rubicon you would have made a lot stronger statement for seeing that wish-vehicle Bronco produced. Ford doesn't respect brand loyalty like we do. They look at where real money goes and then go hunting for it.

I promise you--al you have to do to influence what Ford builds next is go back in time and see what was selling. IH Scout--Chevy Blazer--Ford Bronco. Ford Mustang is killing everyone then the Camaro comes out and then the Duster: whatever. They identify a market by where the money is flowing. Money talks, bullshit walks. You can't influence what they build unless you buy whatever is out there without brand loyalty playing a part. The Jeep has only a couple of years left and the straight axle will be gone from the consumer market. I saw a big upsurge a few years ago but they are sagging now. i hardly see any new ones. Ford isn't going to build that. They will build a diesel whenever they get one approved though.

i hate column shift my self, feels cheap for some reason. i wouldnt count on the manual hubs or manual t-case... most people that have rangers are average drivers, not off roaders. ford has to keep what "most" people want, not what 1 of 1000 people want. out of about 100 rangers i see on a weekly basis, only about 1 or 2 are modified. unfortunatly we that like to drive off road are a minority. but like he said, let ford know!!! just dont ask for stuff that your grandfather or wife wouldnt want the hassle of doing, ex. manual hubs.
