SOLVED: Cat Red Hot - Carpet Melted/Charred

Scott... not trying to start an argument here but that isn't totally true.

This youtube video sums up a catalytic converter a bit.

An electrical misfire will cause it also... but I will stand with my original statement... Rich fuel mixture.

Wow, turns out, not the Cat at all. It was the muffler! See photo.

Went to home depot and got a Milwaukee Hackzall and cut that B right off. The bolt size was probably 15mm at some point but they weren't coming off. I'll grind them off now that I'm home and bolt on a new muffler and tail pipe this week. It actually sounds pretty great without a muffler. I can't hear mah tapes tho!

Thanks for all the help. I learned a lot about misfires and running rich this last week in prep for picking this up.

Mufflers muffle sound.

Just in case this helps someone else... I remember my passenger floor used to get really hot when driving my 88 B2 and soon after it got loud and needed a muffler. After the muffler replacement, I don't remember the floor getting hot anymore! I wonder if that makes the cat get hot??
