So my 63 year old mother decided she wants a truck.... help!

Simple country living and any European vehicle do not mix well. Not only are they expensive to obtain, they are crazy expensive to fix when something goes wrong.

A nicely equipped F-150 will ride as nicely as her MB has, and will have more cool technology if that is what she likes. The Maverick is a much smaller (and therefore easier to park, etc) vehicle. While it rides and drives very nice, it does not ride and drive like a luxury vehicle.

I’m not happy with how Subaru offers service information to the general public. They only will only let you rent a service manual, no purchases, $30 a day. They also make it practically impossible to download.

I would be sceptical of other Japanese auto makers for this reason.

Hyundai is Korean. No idea on their situation

I lived in an HOA for a while. It just seems like something that would happen.
Wow I was not aware of that, doesn't make sense either. Not a big Subaru fan anyways, neither is mom.

Toyota parts are fairly available as Ford, just twice the price.

Yep Hyundai and Kia are from Korea. I know Hyundais have the best warranty. They used to be junk, but are decent now for the most part.

Exactly.

An F150 is way too much vehicle. I dont think she would mind how a Maverick drives, she drives my Fusion when in town and is fine with it.

Sounds like Maverick it is, unless she likes the Escape.

So do I get on a waiting list or what?

Gotta wait for the order banks to open up I believe, unless you/she can find one locally.

If you wait for orders to open up be FAST getting it in.. pretty sure ford only took orders on mavericks for like 2 days this year due to overwhelming demand.

You can find a Maverick from time to time, usually at a significant market adjustment - think $5-10k over.

The order bank is not likely to open until next fall for 2024 model year (they already have orders for 2x the hybrids they can build in 2023) but if you can wait you should be able to order one at msrp.

I’d say Maverick since she’s short if the bed with an extender is big enough. Love my Ranger SC but the bed is awful high and I’m 6’1” and have to step on the rear tire to get into it. Unless you want to throw a Belltech lowering kit on right away. Not my truck, seen at the Ford Nationals in Carlisle, PA this year.

Aaaaah yes. Nothing cries identity crisis more than a lowered fx4.

Looks fine to me. In fact I'd say it's better than the ridiculous lift even the 2wd come with. The "everything looks 4wd, even when it's not" look is really getting old. How many times have ya'll answered the question - " what's the biggest lift I can put on my 4cylinder 2wd with 35's and get good mpg on the Hwy?"

The reason MOST ppl are getting the Maverick, is because the Rangers are too tall anyways. (probably, lol)

It's just beyond goofy AF to spend many thousands of extra dollars to get the OFF ROAD PACKAGE.. just to lower it.. and likely never take off road.

It's like buying big fake boobies and then hiding them under a 2 size too big sweatshirt... why bother?

My 62 year old arthritic knees were kinda liking it.

So you can have something to play with. Obviously.

Let's review what you get with the FX4 package: skid plates under the radiator/front dress, under the transfer case, under the fuel tank and "off road" shocks (that ride better on the road than regular shocks), and a electric locking rear differential. Those are all things that make sense for a lot of situations not off road, so I have no issue if it gets dropped a few inches, since that does not reduce the clearance under the truck anyway, it just reduces the approach, breakover, and departure angles - and not by a lot either.

How is the E-locker different from limited slip?
