So much car debt!!!!!

I have exactly 0 dollars in auto debt.

I still get down the same roads, to the same places, in the same amount of time as someone with 50k car note.

Driving junk has many advantages.
I have the same. I own three vehicles 15-20 years old and keep them in tip top shape. Me and the wife(2 kids) live comfortable. Plus the house is paid off this year. Only bills we will have is utility.

I don’t know what you consider a high rent area, but my house is worth over $500k and my taxes are just under 12k a year. This is just penny’s over average for my area.

Born & raised & live here in the Southwest.
In previous lives, I've worked contract in the NJ\NY area; never lived there fulltime.
I understand working in NJ\NY to make good money when opportunity knocks; I dont understand living there.
Just too crowded, too expensive, too dirty, too old, too much crime, too much noise for my peace of mind.
$12k\yr in property taxes is insane; makes being a "home owner" little more than being an indentured slave to a feudal kingdom.

A beautiful house+land+deer+elk+moose+quiet here, owned clear, taxes 1/10 of yours.
If anything comparable were even available in NJ\NY, cost would be stratospheric!
I guess home is where the heart is, but $12k/year in house taxes is just nuts.

I'm in @bobbywalter's camp. My DD is a 14 year old Corolla. I have a old beater pick-up, and my wife is in a 2019 Santa Fe with nearly $500 monthly payments ( on an interest free loan ). 1/3 of that payment goes to extended drivetrain warranty, road hazard protection, and another warranty for the electronic components for 10 years. My debt will be paid off early, and the warranties will out last the payments. That's where Hyundai is the bargain, in there warranties. I personally have never had any trouble getting warranty service, but have heard stories. I think it's a dealership issue, but I really don't' know. I've had two tires replaced and will get oil changes when the car says "time for new oil". They rotate the tires for me. They do every bit of wrenching and my hands stay away from it. It's actually refreshing to know that my wife is safe in a decent vehicle.

Thats what kinda irritates me about the wife. I told her i would be more then happy to take the trailer down south and bring her back a nice, older, whatever she wanted. But no shes hellbent on buying something a yr or two old with less then 30k.

Which fine....but i dont wanna hear ya bitch about the payment lol.

My newest vehicle (unless you count hers) is a 97.

Im just a bit worried when it does come time to replace my 97 F250 its gonna be rough. I dont really want a massive payment for something newer, but if i start moving up into the 2000s/10s they are to hard for me to keep going down the road...and unfourtantly its getting hard to find driver quality stuff from the 70s-90s unless i go out west, everything here is/will be a rust bucket or some pristine show truck they are asking 30k for....but then im taking a chance of driving 2000 miles and it not being what was represented in an ad.

I wouldnt worry about my wife in any one of my old trucks. They all stop and steer just fine and fire everytime ya hit the key.

Older vehicles are plenty safe as long as they are taken decent care of.

I also have 2 young girls to think about, one still in a carseat, will soon graduate to a booster seat, but I have to keep all 3 of them safe. Small price to pay to keep them off the side of the road waiting for me or a tow truck.

I dont have kids but yeah i get that. The ranger i would worry a lil about breaking down but the F250's been on numerous 3-4-500 mile trips with zero whimpers.

New vehicles can end up on a tow truck just as easy as old ones can lol.

Yes they can. But often times new cars have warranties and/or insurance, where as an older vehicle can't even get full coverage and definitely no warranty on a JY built truck.

There’s a lot to be said about modern safety features. Not just airbags, but structural intedgity and crumple zones. Just taking a wild guess here, but I’d say teens is a bit better than 2000s, and 2000s is much better than 90s. Kinda drops to nil before that.

Eh. To each their own on that. Id rather have something that wont get tottalled by hitting a squirrel. Id rather have nice thick body panels bolted to big steel rails.

Id also rather take my chances with thr steering wheel then having a bomb go off in my face.

Same thought process here as several of you... My two vehicles are '94 and '99, and I wouldn't hesitate to take them on road trips. But my girlfriend is in a new-ish ('19?) CX5 and when the time comes to replace it I'll definitely look for something that's only a few years old. I like having her in a low maintenance safe vehicle. And if we're going together on a road trip, I'll still choose that over one of mine.

man, even just happy and feels good in what she's driving and it's worth it to me
.....

I can't say the same

If I get a job close to home....or when ...things will change.....

Bitch will be driving that bronco ...

I hope. :woot:
