So, i was wondering this today.

Hendrix actually played a righty version flipped to the left and strung backwards.

OK, I didn't know that. In one of Yngwie's albums (Facing the Animal maybe) he has a picture of two Strats sitting side by side, one left and one right. I remember hearing that was a tribute to Hendrix, so I thought he musta played a lefty.

I thought this was pretty interesting... Touches on some points brought up in this thread

that is a rather steep departure from the type of music i was talking about in the OP, which makes me wonder if half the people who hate those groups don't even know what they sound like.

I read some stuff on him that said his unique sound and technique comes from his scalloped fret boards, if you've ever noticed them. Did you know the day he first picked up a guitar was the day Hendrix died? He has a pretty cool story if you're ever interested in reading about him. He also uses the Stratocaster in honor of Hendrix, and I believe they are the same color as his (I think Hendrix played a lefty version though).

When I saw him with Dio, he was way into flipping the guitar around his head. I thought it was kinda cheesy, but the crowd sure liked it.

Yeah, the fretboards on his Strats are cool. I've taken a close look at a scalloped neck, and doubt I could play it. When I saw him in TX, he did the "neck-fling" thing, too. It was the first time I'd seen anyone do it, and I admit it's kinda neat if not overdone. If you go to Wikipedia, and check out his discography, he's been a busy lad over the years! He's another of those artists I'd like to have all the releases from.

Yeah but I'm pretty sure somebody mentioned how easy it is to make popular songs. Sure it's a different genre, but still interesting.

Ill agree to "group think" and bandwagon hatred.

Some people need a hobby. Hating on your band because you wear a scarf on stage is a reasonable justification for some. *shrugs*

And, of course, music taste & popularity is periodical/changes with time...I can't wait 'til Lady Gaga files for bankruptcy and lives in a cardboard box pulling tricks for her coke addicition.

I agree, like a bunch of old farts that meet at a coffee shop every morning and moan and groan about anything remotely new... except they forget when they were young there were old farts doing the same exact thing about them and their new "rock and roll".

They say he preferred the right handed versions for various reasons, some being that they were better made, he liked the knob positions, it altered his tone, the whammy bar position.

Another famous dead guitarist put a lefty bridge on his strat so he could have his whammy bar like Hendrix. That's Stevie Ray Vaughan.

That's how you set up an axe for a leftie. What are you saying here? You don't think they build specific left handed guitars right?

No, surely not. What retard could possibly build a left handed guitar? :icon_rofl:

On a more serious note, I never understood why they do make left handed guitars. Both hands do equal work and I've met a lot of left handed guys who play righty and do a damn fine job of it since that's how they learned.

It all depends on how you first pick one up, and what's available. I'm sure there are some ambidextrous players out there, but once you learn either way, it's not easy to switch. Even thinking about it, to me, "feels" odd....because of so many years of playing right-handed (though not often enough to be "good"....).
