My credo
Crossed threads are tight threads.
Cracked my Back window on the driver side of the slider loading firewood...using a bobcat (oops). Meh its old...probably would've shattered replacing the weatherstrip anyways. Saw both on fleabay in a kit for like $244. Is it a major PITA to swap? or can I watch a youtube video, gather proper tools/expendables and do it in less than a significant chunk of the day?

Otherwise I guess safelite repair safelite replace it is...

Yeah, it's fairly easy, hardest part is working around stuff so you don't have to take EVERYTHING apart inside... for expendables just go to the parts store and get some "butyl rope", it's like $20, easier than other options. The windows are just held in by like 8 nuts with I think a 9mm head. Start off by taking the trim panel off under the window then see if you can get any of the christmas tree clips out behind the side windows and the suit hook thing. I'd pretty much recommend removing the passenger seat, makes it way easier to get back there... the 3 bottom nuts are easy but I couldn't get many of the panel clips out successfully so I just jammed my arms in there and worked by brail... and gently pried the headliner down enough to get the nuts off and on...

It helps to buy a plastic parts puller kit in order to pull back those interior panels. This one cost $5.00. Otherwise maybe a pry bar. Be careful though. It may scratch.

when did the back windows witch to being glued in?

there is a sliding rear window for sale on craigslist here for like 50 bucks. i always thought that would be cool but i think the 04 single cabs are glued in windows, aren't they? like the front window?

Thanks guys....I would definitely acquire all the proper tools, if lacking any....and do it right.

I was wondering if I could replace just the one side of the slider, but seems its all one unit.

There's a a south of the border style auto glass place down my street in the junkyard mecca. Been there for 20+ years, I haven't been in about 10 years. Might stop by and get a quote, might be worth it...

My ranger is the 93 extra cab, sliding rear window (the single slider kind).

There's a couple You Tube videos out there which might help you. As long as you are at it,you might want to replace your old headliner too. I think the You Pull yard charged me $11.00 for one.

You bought a headliner? I thought it was mostly just find a suitable fabric if you can and spray on glue

And I thought that it was tin foil . . .

. . . sounds like yet another conspiracy going on here.

Not the Ranger headliner. It is a fabric adhered to a thin molded composite substrate. It's on the video.

All supercab rear windows are bolted in with adhesive (some have goo, others have that butyl rope stuff, not glued in like a windshield, what looks like it is just the plastic trim around the window), and all supercab windows are interchangeable, in '98 all rear windows are the supercab style so finding one in the wild is pretty good chances...

If I'm feeling frisky tonight I'll pull down my spare and take a pic so you can see how it works...

I already had the headliner done at an upholstery shop.

I appreciate you guys trying to save me a buck, But when it comes to stuff like this, I dont need to pinch pennies.

Maybe if it was the $60k in home repairs then yes time to budget and barter....but I just want my back window the way it was.

If I did it myself it would be so its done right, not to save a buck.

I need advice on the best way to do this, not the cheapest.

I dont remember mentioning it has be done on a budget....yall really so broke that you cant spoil a truck with $2 extra bucks? Its not like Im trying to restore a sailboat here sheesh...

Anyways please advise on best approach to making this go back to normal, and replace the worn stuff around the broken window....again, properly, not cheaply.

The time

I would'nt waste hours going to the pull yard for an $11.00 headliner, I could make $200 with those hours working, and spend $80 of it on a new headliner....

It baffles me how people value money so much more than time...maybe time is not money to them like it is to me. I can work and make more money in my "spare time"...I cant buy more time.
