Snow

before the heavy snow comes (we already got snowed on twice), should i lock my manual hubs and keep it in what 4x4 gear? i heard i should to get the bearings moving before I actually need them again.

Also, what should it be in regular driving? And what about when I need 4x4 when I can't get traction on the snow/ice?

You don't actually need to lock your hubs in until you are expecting to need the 4x4. until then just leave them free so you aren't putting extra drag on the system or extra wear and tear on stuff, as for 4x4 gear, just leave her in 2 high until you need all 4, then put it in 4 hi, if that still ain't moving ya, then go to 4 low.

As for me, I won't be ready for the snow until the week of Thanks Giving. I have my new tranny and t-case, but I also have to be back here monday morning so I'm not ready to risk the M5 swap over this weekend while the 145 is still working. I'll get her swapped over and the last week in Nov and be ready to go out in the snow.

k thx... good luck with the upgrades!

hopefully i can scrape the money together for a new rear windshield before the REAL winter hits... duct tape seal just isn't cutting it...

Snow Rock! don't know what you guys are talkin about.

Got my studded tires and I need to wash and wax it before the winter and paint up the frame and stuff. And make a rack for my lights and snowboard. :icon_thumby:

If I'm only driving local and infrequently, or local if the roads are always bad with the truck, I'll leave the hubs locked in for long periods of time. (I did this off at college, they measured snow by the foot and plowed the roads once a day whether they needed it or not, my hubs stayed locked in till I hit the highway to go home for a weekend.)

Other than that, they stay unlocked unless I think I'm gonna need 'em.

4-hi for road travel (unless it's so bad that you need 4-lo, but if it's that bad you probably shouldn't be venturing out). 4-lo in overdrive on a manual trans will top you out at about 35-40 mph, lol.

4-lo for snow wheeling if you have an auto, its easier on the trans. 4-hi or 4-lo for a manual trans an snow wheeling.

Had are first snow here last night...Wasn't much more than a dusting...but enough to cause me to grab tow straps and pull some people....Over here it is illegal to drive with non M&S rated tires during the winter months....God forbid you don't have Winter tires, and are involved in an accident. It caught a lot of people off guard yesterday. I will admit though that I am pretty impressed with the Pirelli Scorpions I have....

*sigh* i think it hit 35 degrees today!!! but, with the wind, it felt like 20!!

as for playing in the snow, im in 2wd romping around in stock trucks until i get stuck or really really,....really slow down. then *BAM* 4hi. never really use 4lo, never even use 4hi if im on the roads, lol. just whip it around and drift that think like no tommorrow!

my fourwheelers are ready for the snow too!

I need to get some tires soon, the tires I have now are in very bad shape, and to top that I went to put it in 4wd the other day and it will not go in, so I need to get the transfer shift motor off my parts truck pulled off and swaped on to my DD, as for getting tires I just got layed off because of budget cuts at the park, so I will probably have to get used tires, it is a good thing I just got tires put on the wife's car not to long ago

at least you all get snow, i usually get ice in central virginia. we had snow last winter, but it was on top of ice. jeep had 2 bald tires, and the rangers 4wheel drive blew up the hubs trying to engage driving home in said snow on top of ice, but all is fixed and im ready for the worse
