Snow? What snow?

I live in Maine and as I was thinking about retiring, I was trying to figure out what I really wanted to drive. I decided to ditch my 2008 Grand Caravan, give my '93 Ranger to my younger son and order a brand-new XLT. I did and I love it.

I find that the 2.3L, 2 wd, extended cab with 4:10 gears, snow tires on the rear and 240 lbs in the back goes anyhwere I need it to, with ease. The 4:10s make all the difference ....you can just ease the clutch out at an idle without any spinning whatsoever. I am going to put "snows" on the front this week. This is what "Far-north" folks on TRS were recommending, and I've got to admit that they are correct. I drove many, many rearwheel drive cars with snow tires on the back over the years. But I find that the Ranger ABS doesn't like the traction mismatch.... it'll slide the front tires pretty easily. Remember, you can't pump your brakes to stop like on non-ABS cars.

TRS is a neat place to go and "talk to people" about Rangers.

Sounds like a good plan to me---figure out what you want/need in life & Do It! by the way, we even got snow in Louisiana before Christmas (happens like clock-work every 20 or 30 years) ain't all these little cartoon critters great! Hmmmm wonder what I can get for my car-a-van?

yeah i live right in hollis and i have a 97 two wheel drive (non abs) and am going to get my set of 4 snow tires at sams club for 50 each cheap tires but good to put on my stock 14" deer hooves for the winter!!

yeah unfortunately here in maine the winters last a little more than a couple months, try half the year haha it gets old come spring

didn't know it lasted that long--no wonder everyone up there can't figure out why anyone would want to Lower a Ranger

yeah i have a two wheel drive and kinda ruled out lowering it, took me a while though
