Smelling burnt oil when downshifting?

So i was out the other day driving some back roads to go shooting. On my way out my check oil light comes on. I get to a gas station and check my truck and it looks like my oil pan gasket is leaking a little. So i fill it and drive home. But now everytime i downshift i smell burnt oil for a few seconds and occasionally when i shift up, but not at any other time. Any ideas?

might possibly have bad valve seals, and when its pulling vacuum it sucks oil into the cylinder, and then burns it out the exhaust, it could explain your consumption as well.

When you downshift you usually have your foot off the gas so throttle plate is closed but RPM is up.
This creates a high vacuum in the intake, this can pull oil thru the valve stem seals(under the valve covers), this oil is pulled into the cylinders via the intake valves, and burned with the fuel, this usually produces a blue smoke and oil smell from the exhaust.

To limit this check and clean PCV valve and hose, also the Vent hose that runs from valve cover/oil filler to the air intake/filter, clean and no cracks, both of these lower the pressure in the valve cover area so oil is not easily pulled in to the intake via the valve seals.
This also decreases oil leaks from valve covers and oil pans, as it reduces the pressure that pushes out the oil.

If the oil smell is not coming from the exhaust pipe then wash off all areas where you think oil is leaking and the headers and exhaust pipe, then drive it and look for oil leaking near exhaust system.

Im not getting any smell or smoke from the exhaust, thats the first thing i checked. I dis what pont suggested and i was getting the smell whenever i did anything with the clutch now that i was actually expecting it it is doing itnmore than i had thought.

Well it sounds like something with the crankshaft since it happens when the clutch falls apon the pressure plate which can push the crankshaft forward a little, but hell i really wouldnt know, hopefully someone with a little more experience with your engines lower end could chime in, or lower ends in general

Well thanks for the help man, im not looking to go too in depth on this because im hoping to get rid of the truck soon and getting a newer ranger.
