late 70's 302 v8 and replacing the timing cover gasket and waterpump gasket. The Felpro gasket kit came with a sleeve seal. One end of the seal is flat and one end is rounded off. How does this seal install and where? What end faces what? Also came with pro lock in a small white tube, what is this used for?

i think i found my answer. Apparently if the chain side of the cover is flat then the oil slinger is used and if the cover has a cast ramp type oil guide then the slinger is not needed.

Sounds like the sleeve that's intended to be installed on the crankshaft where the seal rides. IF so, its just a cheap replacable wear sleeve to alleviate any wear on the crankshaft stub where the seal rides. The "pro lock" is just a sealant used when installing it to prevent oil from weeping between it and the shaft. We use them on the GM 2.5L in the USPS Mail Vehicles from time to time. Cheaper than R&Ring a crankshaft because of a seal leak.
I have always used a mallet and a block of wood to drive it onto the end of the crankshaft.

You're both wrong, the sleeve is intended to be installed on the harmonic balancer hub that fits inside the timing cover seal. As for the cover seal, the early covers has the seal pressed in from the back side, the newer ones goes in from the front.
