I keep forgetting the stereo in my '90 is working when it wants only... it's only 11 years old, not sure what it's problem is... it's only been neglected and left in a humid environment it's whole life...

I'm tempted to put the same Boss unit I put in my F350 but it only has front USB, I would strongly prefer rear USB so I didn't have any danglers out front to get broken off over a bump offroad... I should probably look for a 90 degree USB extension and just go that way... But then again bluetooth is kinda nicer and less work so might not even use USB, but it's nice to have several hundred MP3's just loaded and running in the background... I'm open, not wanting to break the bank, when I'm camping and wheeling I don't always bring my phone so bluetooth is secondary...

I just learned they make a 90 degree adapter for a USB that's flush and I think that means it will point the USB down which would be perfect... much less likely to break the drive off in a quick shift through rough terrain... less than $40 all together, sold... :)

You can get those angled up or down. Pay attention when you order. The Pioneer had unit I put in my Fun50 has rear USB and I installed extension cables with ports mounted low on the dash.

If you're only plugging in a flash drive, you can get them short enough to effectively not stick out.

Like THIS

Available in pretty much any brand/capacity ya want.

My volume knob sticks out farther than one of those does.

I remember hearing issues with those stubby ones burning out sooner used on a stereo like that, but they're dumb cheap so I guess that doesn't really matter... and it's not a daily driver, throw a couple extras in the glove box and go for it... :)

I’ve been using one like that in my Fun50 for 4 or 5 years with no issues.

Check out SanDisk Cruzer usb flash drives. They are tiny no need for adapters or dongles. This one is 32GB.

hmm, now I don't even remember where I heard about the small drives not living... might have been Radio Shack which kinda dates it... :), guess I have a plan A and B now though so we'll see...

I have a Sandisk Cruzer Micro 4GB that I bought in February of 2012 that stayed in my radio till last year and is still good. I just wanted more space.

I bought a TomTom at the same time. Haven't used it since I got a smart phone...

Got it installed today, might take a pic later... when pulling the old stereo out (wish it hadn't crapped out, it was a Premier that was pretty nice...) I found my old USB drive I had in the rear USB port that had stopped working a few years ago, turns out it was just unplugged some... it's a mid size drive that only sticks out 1/2", it'll work fine for now...
