Simple things you hate doing?

Exactly. Where I live, the average price of a house is around $200,000.00. Average rent for a house is about $1,000 per month. So a renter pays $10,000.00 per year. If he lived in the house for 20 years, he'd pay $200,000.00, and have nothing to show for it. HOWEVER, had he purchased that house, his mortgage payment would be less than the cost of rent, and at the end of the term, he gets a piece of paper that says he owns the house.

For leasing a car, I chose a 2020 Ford Ecosport SE Convenience. I deleted the Ecoboost engine in favour of the 2.0l naturally aspirated engine and intelligent 4WD. I added the interior protection package (floor mats), and a cargo package.

Purchase price is $29,147.00. Let's say I get approved for a 5 year loan, with 0% interest. My payment is $485.78/month. If I lease for five years, I pay $312.00 per month. Over the life of the lease, I've paid $18,720.00. Ford Canada website does not tell me what the buyout price would be, but I'm guessing that would not be something they could tell me at the time I signed the lease. The problem I see is that assuming the lease buy out price would be a little north of $10,000 (what remains to be paid of the original purchase price), I'm ultimately paying more (total) to buy out the lease than the car is worth, because at the five year mark, it's probably worth $20,000 to $25,000. If, however, the lease buyout would be the present value of the car - $18,000, then I can see it maybe working out.
Thats why id spend 3k on a nice 1st gen exploder and have a better vehicle and save myself 30k.

Don't refrigerators still come inside free houses?

A refrigerator box, a knife, and an ill fitting, soiled batman costume are all a man needs to survive and I will gladly prove it.

lol Sorry, Rusty. The only reason I'm driving an old piece of crap '95 Taurus right now is that it was all I could afford. I'd still be driving my 2010 Fit (50MPG and over 120 HP), if I could have kept up with the payments. If I could afford it, I'd buy that Ecosport in a heartbeat.

As for the first Gen Explorer being a better vehicle, I disagree. Explorer comes with around 200 HP on a 4,000 pound truck. EcoSport, as I priced it, has 166 HP on a 3,000 pound vehicle.
Explorer gets 15-20 MPG imperial.
Ecosport gets 30-35 MPG imperial.
Ecosport comes with a warranty.
Ecosport also comes with roadside assistance.

I won't get into a pi$$ing match with you over which one will handle better. I'll just say that the Ecosport is shorter by 23 inches, and 1/2 inch narrower.

Sandblasting!

It’s fun for the first five minutes, then your shirt and underwear are full of sand.

Don’t ask why I sand blast in my underwear...... 😂

Wtf is underwear?

My wife wanted a ecosport because they are cheap and she thought they were cute. We sat in one and I told her if we ever got in a wreck they wouldn’t need the jaws of life to get me out, I would just go hulk hogan on it and rip that cardboard thing off like a t-shirt.

The 20 years of maintenance on a house and appliance replacement would likely even out the cost compared to renting. Paying property tax over and over and over again for 20 years adds up too.

I'm for buying a house though definitely. Somewhere cheap and in the middle of the woods where taxes are peanuts.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but the average property taxes in my area is just shy of $10k a year.

It’s not worth it, we’re planning on moving within the next year or 2. To claim farmland you pay full taxes for the first 3 years before it goes farm assessment. We’ll probably get some animals and claim farmland after we move.
