88 BII: never been stuck had it on 2 wheels, mud up to the door handles, through a small pond(stalled, started and drove out), out on dirt bike trails in the desert with 500lbs of rocks in the back, caught air doing 85 down a dirt road, its got 240,XXX miles on it and just keeps going. Now the Jeep on the other hand gets stuck in the snow...

Ok I started this thread but I have yet to put up any pics of my own rig, so I went out last night and flexed her out a bit.... Ok more like maxed it out. My 31s were stuffed in the fenders so hard it sounded like it was breaking shit

I went racing last weekend..

... started out slow, but it was my own fault. I only drove the truck 2 blocks before that..

We got t-boned in our first heat.. front wheel caved in a bit, but still solid.
Nothing's loose, but something's bent. We still had air in the tires, so we finished the heat... We weren't last, but close to it.

We got a win in the second heat.. There was one guy ahead of me, but he pulled off for some reason.

In the main, running in second with about 5 laps to go (out of 10), I overheated.

The good news is, I got off before any major damage occurred. I was worried about cracking the heads again.
Back at the pits, I was glad to see that there's no water on the dipstick. She fired right up the next day, I think it's all good.

This old Ranger has some potential. The little things that went wrong were all my fault. Can't blame the truck at all!
I had my hands full just trying to get it working and out to the track.
In all the rush, I overlooked a couple of simple things.

But now I know what I got, and I got 3 more weeks to prepare for the next one..

This vid is "on board" for the main, pretty much uncut.. ;

This vid is a mix of clips from the whole night.. [@ 1:01 is the T-bone..]

My 84 B2 is broke down more than it moves, guess its one way to keep it a low mile vehicle LOL. If I could keep the starter in it, and keep it from oiling my driveway it would be a major plus.

Here's one.. I thought I posted this already, but I guess not.. it's from last year..

The old Ranger made it to three races. It's a 1988, 4WD, 2.9L, with an '87 throttle body.

I had trouble getting it to run right for a while.
It would hesitate off idle, and I went round and round trying to trouble shoot it.

Finally, my buddy told me to "just set the advance to 32 degrees at 3500 RPM", and that did the trick!
We didn't even unplug the spout or anything.. didn't even have a tachometer actually.. just step on the gas and turn the distributor. It took two minutes flat..

After that, there was still a 'very slight' hesitation- but overall, she was running better than ever.
On first test drive, I got a nice 2WD burnout, right off idle without using the clutch, on dry pavement..

Next day was the race, and she was screaming nice, but then I flipped it in practice..
Damn shame too, cause I think we might've had something for the Subaru that day.

Here's the vid... the good action starts at about 2:55, and the last half minute shows the damage;

... when we came out on the wheels, I thought we could just drive away. But as soon as I stepped on the gas, the throttle stuck.. so I shut it down.

At that point, I still didn't realize how bad the damage was. I really thought we would be able to hammer everything out, and make to main event anyway.

Then I saw it from outside...

When we got back to the pits, we wrestled the hood open and found that the radiator was laid across the fan.

The throttle stuck because the hood was pressing on it.

I could've fixed the throttle, and one of the other racers even offered me a radiator "if I could make it fit", but there was just too much to fix.

Pulls jeep wearing 35's out on the regular. 31's and a lockright... fits around the tight stuff where a fullsize can't make it even being a long wheel base.

Makes people question what i'm doing when their big trucks can't make it.

But the first few times i went wheeling a very experienced wheeler showed me a lot and taught me offroad driving. So driver skill really makes up for a lot until you hit ruts bigger than your own...

When my wife and I were on our honey moon, I took my 92 Exploder at least 10 miles down a snowy (5" of some somewhat slippery stuff) icy road. I figured I'll run her in two wheel, then if I get stuck I've got four wheel to get out with, sound logic right? Well, I didn't end up needing it, almost did but got through without it, the exploder just kept chugging along. I get back to town stop off at a store, tried to go and was stuck, time for four wheel drive.... My 4x4 was broken, I'm some lucky I didn't get stuck ten miles out from town. The wife was mildly un-impressed.

My 98 ranger 3.0 4X4 has hauled tons of crap, waaay more than it was intended to, I used to be a builder, I've had my trac rack max out and a FULL load in the bed many time, and she always took it in stride.
I love my ranger and old explorer.

flat towed my buddys jeep 10 miles with a strap, that was an interesting night

Its pretty capable of sitting in the driveway leaking oil and coolant all over. Typical Ford. If it stops leaking fluids then I'll worry. Weather is so cold right now it won't even stay running.
