Should my engine die when I unplug my MAF sensor?

Well, just like the title says. My engine dies when I unplug it and I was just wondering if it's normal or not. Thanks.

Um, I think the computer is supposed to go into limp mode, not die.

It's not a good edea to unplug anything while the motor is running, the computer doesn't like it.

If you disconnect the maf and then try to start the truck is should run, but it will be in limp mode.

YA +1 it should not die just start idling a little fun and major reduced power

Seems like one time I forgot to plug mine back in.

It ran with out it, but it had a major lope to it.

True, but there are some systems you can unplug without causing harm to the system otherwise the repair manual probably would'nt tell you to do it.

For example: the manual says to unplug the IAC valve while the engine is running to notice wether or not the engine stalls or decreases in rpm's.

I just needed to know wether or not it's normal for the engine to die when the MAF is unplugged. I'm starting to think I need a PCM..........oh god please no.

Well I have my throttle body off of the Ranger now and it looks kind of dirty. More oily inside than anything else. I just got back from Wally-World and picked up some carb cleaner so let's see how everything runs once I get her all cleaned up and back together.

I was using my Haynes manual and a voltometer to check across the pins of the IAC and it says I should have between 6ohms and 10ohms. I had 10.3ohms according to my meter, if I had it set right. I'm no wizard when it comes to electrical stuff on vehicles............but hey, I'm willing to learn......haha
